    Could well be maple or maybe some sort of maple...then again maybe it's maple

    I agree with you Locust Post, It defintely looks like Maple to me. I handle quite a bit of it. My second guess would be ...... maple as well.

    Soft maple firewood. I cut a lot of it off the swampy areas around me. Burns well when dry. Great for the shoulder season

    This definitely looks like soft maple. Thin, smooth bark on young trees and upper portions of older trees, heartwood distinctly different than the the sapwood, no strong end grain. Looks like the 7 red maple trees I dropped this year except the heartwood in my trees is a darker color though many of mine were starting to center rot a bit.

    I say soft maple. There are two types of soft maples - Red and Silver. I am more familiar with Red and that's what I think this is.
