First look I thought Maple, but now the bark looks like Oak. Wood seems wrong for Oak though. Doesn't look like Beech to me. Bark is too rough. I'm with Slim, whack open one of those rounds.
Will have to wait til Sunday for the splitter lol I should know by now what kind of what is what considering I ask every week what kind of new wood I get is lmfao Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not a betting man. All the maple I see has thicker bark but the very few oak limbs I get have similar bark. This is in West Texas. The land of pokie things not trees. Now I'm curious on the verdict.
Keep asking. I personally enjoy ID threads. Here is one I made years ago when I was asking for id's weekly. You will quickly realize the different opinions and how hard it can be without good bark, end grain. And split pics. some wood id's | Firewood Hoarders Club
Lmao I'm Glad I found it then...it was sitting out front of someone's house by curb...not sure I was allowed to take but I figure if it's by the curb it's fair game so I took lmao. As I picked up my last piece the home owner pulled in. I left
Looks like some sort of maple to me as well. Red maple? That's a tough call on taking it. Usually curbside means fair game but never know with wood. I guess to me it depends on the neighborhood. I live somewhere where not too many people burn and the village picks up anything that you put to the curb, so I would say fair game in that situation. You might live somewhere where everyone burns and there's no pick up of large pieces of wood like that. Either situation if it was something I wanted saved I'm not putting it out to curb.
Ya I have a ton of people Who call me when they see any kind of wood out since no one ever gives any away on Craigslist anymore Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree with maple. Around here the rough bark doesn't start until they have some age on them. Looks like the larger rounds from down the trunk end are just starting to get shaggy. One Man's opinion.
I'd tend to side with some sort of a maple as well, but there's a bunch of bark that looks like Red oak. It's definitely not beech. A split will tell all.
As soon as I start splitting bright and early Sunday I'll take a pic ) The suspense builds til then lmao
