A friend had some blowdowns from a storm this summer, he asked if I was interested in the wood. Sure, mostly Cherry, some Oak and Maple
Yeah, it's great for smoking. It's a quick seasoning wood that is a good mid grade btu wood. I don't have much at all this year, but I will for next year. I might have to borrow a few splits from my buddy so I can have my traditional cherry and shagbark hickory Christmas day fire. It smells great when burning.
I don't get much cherry but I love to smell it burning on a cool fall day. Nice haul; it's good to have friends who understand our affliction and help us with it! Gooder on him for helping!
First pic.... I Second pic.... Craziest hinge I ever seen Really nice score bud All my butts are treated to cherry smoke, 'cos that's what I have in the stacks which suits. Resplit some and chunked it down with the chopsaw for a coworker's attempt on smokin a turkey this past weekend. He was enthused, to say the least.
This sounds great. Now you make me want to mix some of my apple and hickory over next holiday weekend. Any tips for getting some of the smokey smell out of yhe stove safely? I have a Hearthstone Heritage.
He says "I can have my traditional cherry and shagbark hickory Christmas day fire. It smells great when burning." I am wondering how you get the smell of the fire, maybe he has a fireplace and not a wood stove? Horkn
Oh, got it. I have wondered same myself..... Aside from opening the door to reload, the only place smoke comes out of the heating operation is the top of the chimney til the heat gets back up and the smoke disappears, and I don't try to stand on my roof, especially when a fire is lit.
Second pic..... Craziest hinge, mother nature was responsible for that mess. That tree actually split right in half for about 14 feet, you can see the splits halves in the pics.
