County was taking down trees this week and while I was at work my wife asked if they would leave some of the more manageable stuff as much as I wish I could handle 4' diameter I can't. They said they would but instead of leaving it they just dumped right by my garage
Very nice! Don't be afraid of the big stuff it's just like eating a whole elephant, one bite at a time. About 4 years ago a tree service left me a mountain of red oak including logs 6' long and 48" to 52" in diameter. All I had then was a 441 with a 25" bar. I got through all with that saw. You can too it just takes time and work. I was lucky because I have acerage where they could dump and I didn't have to worry about moving it or getting around the giant piles.
Nice score! For my whole adolescents and into early adulthood all I had was a 290. I cut lots of 3-4 foot stuff!
I wish I lived next door, I'd come over and we could have cutting party and whack that all up in a afternoon, or at least most of it with two saws running. The was a great score by you, enjoy the future BTU's
We should start a firewood hoarders community, where we actually do live next door. That might be pretty fun.
With a centralized heat/electric gen plant, powered of course by......wood. Forum rules would still have to apply concerning one particular discussion item So how many acres would be needed for dwellings?

do you realize how quickly the FHC commune would run out of available wood to cut? Or what size of area they would need for the commune? would be fun though.
A few hundred acres should do fine. How about a square mile or 2 that is wooded with oak and hard maple with some hickory scattered around?
