Been looking over a very large dead red oak on one of my trails for a year now. Just did not get a good feeling about dropping it . Has a large crown and most of its branches still.

So I have put it on the back burner till some help is available. I was scouting that trail this morning for deer action and look what I found.

The oak was on the ground so good wood does come to those that wait.

Looks like a good choice to wait.

She looks a little rotten, at least where the break is.

Not bad at all no punky wood and dry as can be. There were two large branches still alive about 10" round each but all the rest dead and no bark. I will post some pictures after I start cutting this weekend.

Those are some of the branches standing up from the main tree.
