Actually I've known quite a few dogs that thankfully, overcame the handicap of not having a good owner/trainer and were good, or even great dogs anyway. One of my rescued GSD mixes, Missy was a prime example - stupid and neglectful owner and even some abuse. She was a good dog anyway which is why I brought her into my house and integrated her with the rest of the pack. Although she wasn't perfect and still had flaws until her last day, she was a real trier - wanting to please however she could. If sometimes old fears got ahold of her, she still tried to do what was asked (sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't) but she always loved every person she came in contact with and never held a grudge.

Both Giz and Sandy headed to the groomer down the road... for the works. They always prance around after like a couple lil kids at Christmas... :D

Last night Lila was playing in and pouncing on a newspaper & getting fired up . Lil one was coloring near her, the way she was moving the marker attracted the cat and she gave it a playful whack, left a scratch on lil ones hand. Tough deal, startled and hurt the kid but the cat was just playing. She it TOOOOO cute! This morning she plopped the cat in my lap, showed the cat what she did to her hand last night and gently explained she cannot do that to dogs or humans anymore.

We have always kept our cats nails clipped short to prevent them from needing to scatch on the furniture, but this one is indoor/outdoor and needs her nails when outside. Hmm.

Doesn't mean you can't keep the nails clipped. Also, young cats will make mistakes like that. Most grow out of exposing their nails when playing. A nice loud "OW", if it happens, will startle them and they learn from it. Oh, and make sure the cat gets NO attention of any sort for 20-30 seconds afterwards either (besides the initial OW). Otherwise, they learn they get attention for doing that.

Oh don't worry wildwest , you can clip her nails and everything will be good. And then, for extra measure, give a nice belly tickle while you cradle the cat in your arms upside down...they really like that!!
