Anyone here have a hankering for old Machinist's chests? My Dad used to have a Gerstner on his dresser to keep his knick knacks on that I always thought was really awesome when I was a kid. It was in horrible condition, water damaged and missing parts.

He gave it to me for my birthday last year and I restored it. Turned out great. Just bought another beater on Ebay for a winter project. Here's a few before, during and after pics.

Nice job on the restoration. My best friend's father has 2 of those-his and his father's. They were both machinists at IBM-every employee in those days bought one we they were done with their training. Those boxes are things of beauty.

Nice work. I have a bunch of tap and die sets and punches that need a box like that. This goes on "the list".

Awesome looking restore. I'm sure having that around will keep the memories of your dad fond.

    Awesome job.

I have one as well, identical to the one you restored, but mine still looks like the first photo you took. No broken parts, but old. But then again my whole house is old...full of antiques and though was started in 1994, is designed to look like the 1930's. But then again my ex-wife used to say, "LodgedTree, you were born old". (I always hung around with the old duffers 30-40 years my senior).

Glad to see it restored instead of destroyed.

    Nice

I had a 11 drawer with the handles on the sides rather than on top.
Stolen. With all my mics, scales and gage blocks.

Sorry man, really feel for you. I wish nothing but the worst to a tool theft.
