Top fill oil cap narrows it down to 050, 051, or 075. Recoil design narrows it down to 050 or 051. The "step" in an 075 recoil is deeper. The newer design 051 has the rectangular Stihl tag on recoil, so my money is on 050 or early 051.
What's the small white cap for? Any value in this saw given the missing top cover(s)? This saw has the toggle switch on the left side of the handle like a 041?
That small white cap is the tank vent. There is value in 050/051 saws, the value is somewhere between say an 041 and 038. If you're buying it to flip or part out, the value is in the ignition. So, if it has spark, the bottom of the crankcase isn't broken or corroded too bad, I'd try to buy it for $50, you should be able to part out and triple your money. If you're buying it to build, the top cover, wrap handle, and rear handle assembly can probably be had for $75 or less, if all else is good to go, you'd have $125 in a 90cc saw. I would assume the piston is scored and they robbed parts, or the ignition is bad and they robbed parts.
At second glance, you have the wrap handle, so maybe just needs rear handle and top cover. Then whatever is t working causing the saw to be taken out of service. Who knows, maybe it's just those pieces got broken, taken off and never replaced?
Fuel tank has a hole in it, so I'm going to part it out, any rhyme or reason on what to include in the sub assemblies? Should the recoil stay with the tank etc? Thank you!
Well, I screwed that one up.....I even mentioned 041 earlier and still missed it, now seeing the rear handle and the clutch cover, what you have is an 041. Sorry, I completely spaced the 041 having the top fill for the bar oil. If it has spark, I believe ScottyOverkill needs ignition parts.
