Cherry seems to hold up pretty well. It also seems to season in the round better than some woods.

I had a few nice rounds last year that were believed to be all punk, from the outside at least. Once I sunk my saw into it, I was pleasantly surprised with solid wood, minus the 1" of outer punk.

Same here on the Cherry that broke me this Spring. 1" or so of punk in some spots, solid ALL the way thru other sections- 18-20" diam, down for 3+ years, but held off the ground.... Still upper 20's MC tho.

Ashwatcher, is that green ash? Doesn't look like the ash we have here.

You know sir, I don't know for sure-what you see was the whole tree, very small and I assumed it was just immature given the tighter pattern on the bark...I kinda hope it is and that explains the abominable splitting horror that it was! I will certainly research and define so as to not make the same mistake again...Thx

Whatever wood that stringy stuff is,
I'd avoid it in the future, or burn it into the rounds
    :)

Green Ash is not stringy, unless you had a weird one for some reason, did not grow straight.

IDK oldspark, just looked like any young ash-it was dropped as part of the pasture clearing from my cousins farm that adjoins mine-maybe just a freak thing...glad its over....I thought...I'll scoop up this lil ash cause I know it'll split easy and be ready to burn before you know it I said...:headbang: and I'm the Ashwatcher...never before have I had such a twisted grain splitter fighting piece of tree...

I had a hickory split like that two years ago, very stringy and twisted!! That pile is going into the stove this year, smells like ribs when it burns! :grizz:
