I think he is using SIB in Jay. Good deal from him. A few years ago, he was selling them for $199. a ton delivered anywhere in his area. No limits on amounts. I don't think that was realistic for him. Now he can recover some of his cost for gas anyway.

He's gotta lose money on that trip. I don't think he can haul 6 tons to Millinocket and back haul empty to Jay for $75.00. It's 330 miles round trip.

Well, maybe I had it wrong, At any rate, what StEarl got was a good deal at that price. SIB did deliver to me with no charge the first year, the second year, he only changed 10 or 20 bucks. I would tip him well because of the good service.

Yes he has. He moved a lot of pellets a few years ago. He told me that he sold 5000 tons the previous year, and that was before his son got involved. I don't know how he's doing now.

Just got my propane for the winter, 200 gallons at $2.19/gal (plus have to pay tax here). Got 3 tons of Somersets on Sunday, $225 each (plus tax). Propane same as last year, but Sets were cheaper than I paid last year. I'll probably need another ton or two but might just chance getting them on the fly, just don't have room right now. For the other stove I have 2-3 cords of 2+yr old ash, a cord of 1.5yr spruce, and maybe half ton of Redstone Ecobricks / Enviro-bricks.

I don't recall seeing sets around here. From what I have read, that is a very good price for a good pellet.

They're made in Kentucky and perhaps don't ship that far. My coworker sitting next to me right now got em for $200/ton on pre order this summer, but too far away for me to drive. We both drive about an hour to get work here, and from opposite directions, so between us is quite some distance. His propane company was substantially cheaper too. The closest place to me wants $260/ton, so I do go one town further where they are $225, worth the extra drive if I get 3 like I did.

Larry, in the 10 years I've been burning I've never seen them either. I would like to try some to see what all the fuss is about.

Good, at least I don't have to doubt that. I am glad for those who do have access. I'm OK with the brands we have. The Maine Woods brand is a really decent pellet. Good enough for all my heating needs. While I say that, I must admit I am out of them and have my garage filled with bargain Lowe's pellets from last spring's sell off. I'm OK with those also.

I'm burning Natures Own from Lowes right now, soon to be followed by FSU's. After that MWP. The cold weather pellets are Lacretes. Those are the 3 tons I need to burn to make room for my furnace install next summer. After that I'll start on the rest of the stash.

Well, i dug out our record sheet, and we payed $1400 even for 6 ton delivered. He had charged me $75 for like 4 years , so i got used to saying that. Turns out it has gone up a whopping $11.
iirc, gas was higher some of, if not all those years, so he probably was losing some on the trip.

*edit- OK he credited me two bags worth as well for ones that were not perfect (and i still burned most of those two), so probably a $20 increase on the delivery. I'll take it. :D As mentioned, great service.

Bought 500 gallons of LP for 1.59/gallon. Between that, the already full tank, and 75 bags of Somersets, I think I'm set for the winter, and should have some LP left over for the pool heater in the spring:thumbs:. Warm pool = wifey in pool:whistle::yes:
