What rational reason could there be for the "no partial cutting. All or none." clause? Not that it looks like 40,000 pounds in the picture, but only a professional is going to have a truck that can carry 40,000 pounds at a time. Pro ain't taking it for free, but a pickup load here and a pickup load there and it would be out of his life pretty quickly at no cost. Wondering if anyone sees any upside to the poster for requiring "all or none". Anything gone is that much less he has to deal with.
He means that whoever wants it takes it all. I've been on a few of these worded like this, they mean if you start cutting you shall take every last twig.
Think this way, the rounds have value. If they were were cut down they could be sold. They are giving this wood away and only asking to clean up all the stuff there.
The thing that comes up is guy #1 comes and takes all the clean straight easy stuff and when guy #2 shows up he's left with the crap and says no thanks.
That makes sense. I think 2 weeks after a hurricane, he'll probably find his position isn't that strong. If he wants the difficult stuff cleaned up, he'll probably end up paying for it, but it makes sense to try to get rid of the lot of it.
It's like this one guy, I offered to take the big stuff off his lot, but he wanted me to take the brush. He was going to pay someone to clear the lot the big stuff and the brush, so if I take the big stuff out for free he will have to pay the guy less to get the job done, but no he wanted to pay the guy to do the whole job instead of me doing part of the work for free, makes no sense to me.
I pick up a lot of wood this way. Cut up a big oak (3+cords) last year. In my experience, they just want every last branch and twig hauled off. I do get some good wood others wouldn't get because I can take the branches and put the small stuff in a burn pile. I also rake and clean up so it looks like no tree was ever there. Sometimes I end up with three trailer loads of branches, but 3 cords of good wood makes it worth it.
I think the issue here is whether or not you have abundant tree resources in your area. Here in Lancaster there haven't been real forests for a long time. All the land was cleared for farming early into the westward expansion. That being said I will be be more willing to deal with cleanup than someone one lives beside or owns private forest. My .02
I think he is smart to offer it up like he did. If he doesn't get takers, he can always back off and offer it up again piecemeal. I think it is small price to ask for all that wood that is already down.
That's fine if you have someplace you can deal with and get rid of the brush, a whole different story if you don't. I will commit to taking all the wood but not the brush
Guy from Alaska shows up, takes a load, says he'll Be back next year Long round trip, have to wait for spring
So, not that I would do this but what would stop a guy from saying sure he'll take everything, then show up and cherry pick the best stuff and not come back for the rest? This is craigslist, no one is signing legal contracts or anything, I doubt he is gonna hold your license until you pick up every last piece.
Have guy number 1 start by taking the harder stuff and tell him he can get the easy stuff after the hard crap is gone..I've seen people do it that way here
