    The cause of the problem.

I think the flex plate was made in China as well. The GF bought the 4Runner used with no history. The engine is not original so I guess they threw in a clutch while they were at it.

The new clutch kit I put in was made in Korea.

That's crazy, I've put in 5 clutches over the years and have never seen a pressure plate fail! I almost always use OEM parts or upgraded aftermarket parts, it's a crappy job that sometimes lasts more than a day so I do everything I can to prevent having to do it again.

2 out of the last 3 I've had to replace were due to broken pressure plates.

CG, that officially sucks. I wish you better luck with the new ones.

Are those grooves on the pressure plate fingers from the throw out bearing? It's hard to tell how bad it is in the picture. Does she ride the clutch pedal or not take it out of gear at a stop light?

I am a professional auto mechanic and see that quite often on failed clutches. Along with bad throwout bearings and shredded cutch disks. I pulled this one out of a Toyota Rav 4. It drove in and was really noisy as you can imagine but it still moved under its own power. Your guess is as good as mine as to how it happened.
