This thread likely broke some records I'm sure! Any of the mods keeping any stats for the site?

I think this hit 45 or 46 pages in about 4 weeks... What do I win? Do I get the truck paid for?? :D

If I had charged $1000 per page, I would have paid for the truck already!

I guess you did not read the terms of agreement when you signed up? It is the other way around. FHC charges the OP by the post. Your bill is in the mail.

I shipped out your fuel cap today. Let me know how you like it.

I think it's a huge improvement over the stock plastic cap. The magnet makes it very convenient as well.

Unfortunately modern diesel fuel injectors are far more prone to failure than previous generations or their gasoline cousins. The reason being that they are designed to work at rediculously high pressures and have smaller orifices and much tighter tolerances. Ultra fine particles that were previously not a problem are now a problem, and they are very difficult to filter effectively.

Go ahead and google High-Pressure Common Rail operating pressures. He he!

Yup, blew my mind back when I first heard the pressures that they were using in the original 7.3 Powerstroke!

Then we have crappy fuel in this country and the fuel filtration is lacking on diesel engines in trucks. If I bought a diesel truck the first thing I would do to it would be to upgrade the filtration.

Sure the pressures are high, but they have been that way for a l-o-n-g time. It sounds scary, but it really isn't, and they just don't have many problems, if any.

I have three diesels in my boat, two mains and a 5kw generator. All three motors are Yanmar's, not only are they high pressure, they are also high RPM motors as opposed to most diesels, including this Ecodiesel which actually runs at pretty low RPM's surprisingly for it's size. When I first got my boat everyone told me be worried about the high pressure, and moreover the high RPM's. Yet all my research found they ran like champs forever. And so far, they have.

Any way, the fuel in my boat is sometimes old, always wet, very often dirtier that you would ever believe. The reason being is, the marina's just have dirty tanks, old fuel and take delivery of special "Marine" diesel (it's just dyed red to make sure you pay tax on it) which is not very prevalent so it ends up dirty and old most of the time. I'm on my 10th season with this particular boat and have yet to have any issues whatsoever with them (knock knock knock on wood!). I've done nothing but the standard maintenance on them, oil change each season, filters, and 2 years ago I had all the heat exchangers cleaned out (aftercooler, oil cooler, raw water heat exchanger, tranny cooler, turbo oil cooler). With salt water running thru them with zincs, they can get clogged up in the marine world.

In all that time, I have stood aside and watched ALL of my buddies replace entire motor after motor, injectors, injector pumps, water pumps, timing belts and chains......... I could go on and on and on... one of my best friends is on his 4th replacement motor/rebuild on his set of Mercruiser gassers. He has spent WELL over a 100k in the time I have spent under $10k on motor maintenance/replacements.

What I have learned? I'll take a well engineered diesel over a gasser any day of the week! The Ecodiesel has two fuel filters as do most diesels. A main and a secondary. The filters go down to 10 microns, their just isn't anything getting thru there! I don't think we need to worry about the injectors. ;)

Fuel quality has dropped recently. I'm seeing plugged filters on my bulk tank & my fuel usage is down. That said a lot of the injector issues I hear about are being blamed on lack of lubrication.

It's dyed because your not paying road tax. Not because your paying more.

To the contrary, in NY state marine fuel not only includes ROAD TAX (go figure, my boat is NOT on the road!!), it also includes marine transportation (translates to tankers and cargo ships) tax as well as a few other special marine environmental taxes, and my boat is not a tanker or cargo ship (again, go figure!). That is why it is dyed in NY. If I got caught with regular road diesel fuel in my boat, it's a $10k fine. Yes, I LOVE NY!
    :hair:

I pay $0.75 to $1 more per gallon at the marina pumps for fuel in NY. Some states like RI, you can get the road tax back on your tax return if you document marine fuel usage. But not in NY, we can thank Hillary for that.

Interesting... Don't they dye the farm fuel up there?
