so I am looking for a way to trigger a start command , as we cold shut our cabin every weekend and start up every Friday night . Temp is -3 tonight so warmed up quick with my enviro Maxx downstairs and pacific energy on main floor , but in a few weeks it will be -10 C then -20 then -30 and so on..... I am going to add a wall mounted hopper extension gravity feed to to the 120 lb hopper and try a run stove on low over The 5 week days so cabin stays around 40 F ... However would to hear if anyone figured out how to do a 5 day timer start ?? Thanks look forward to being a member

I'm confused at what your wanting to do.

Are you looking for your stove to turn on x amount of times per day for 5 days, or turn on x amount of hours before you arrive at your cabin?

Don't know anything about your stove, is it controlled via separate thermostat?

Hi Dpopps, let me expand my wish list , and add some details , I still need to find the profile updates to add some history. Basically I installed my enviro Maxx 2 years ago and just out of the crate with standard stove controls, as I was still Reno Reno Reno . In the un-insulated basement with a open addition in north western Ontario winter . It helped to keep me alive ,,,, so now project is 75% complete and it is time to trick out the stove with a wall thermostat ,, I hope to be able to run it all week but only have 120 lb hopper and I am not here 3 or 4 days a week and I thought maybe there was a way to shut it off fill the hopper and have it start on its own on Thursday morning to bring heat up for a Friday night return as when I get here it takes 12 hours to get up to a temp to take a coat off .. 1st night is just plan cold. ,,, so what have you heard on that subject ... Thanks

Sounds like you just need a heavy duty 7 day programmable timer.

If you have a Wall thermostat and it's set to 70 if will just site there calling for heat till temperature is satisfied. So when the timer turns your stove on Thursday morning and the thermo is already calling for heat it should start to fire your stove when powered on.

If you have Wi-Fi at your cabin you could also get a Wi-Fi thermostat and turn it on remotely via smart phone.

7 day programmable wifi tstat wired to a 24V relay would do the trick...if your stove is setup for tstat control already then you won't even need the relay.
I'm not familiar with pellet stoves much but I seen your title and was interested because I have "automated" my wood furnace to some extent...

Ok Thanks good start... I was looking at these 7 day units ,,, I am with out wifi in this area (low population)....I do have cell service so my internet /email is tablet with cell plan. So the 7 day unit needs a hold with no call for any heat then a start command on day 4 run for 2 days . There are many units on the market I am trying to pick one with this versatility ,,,after I can get it installed I will build a wall mount gravity feed hopper extension

If you have cell service then you are good to go. Just get a mobile hotspot from your cell company, then setup a router to communicate between the HS and the tstat, you can then send the "heat" command from your phone, and also monitor house temp. I even know someone that setup a wifi camera pointing at the wood stove so he could look at it during the day and remind the wife time to reload.
There may be somebody here that can figure a better/easier way to set this up, I dunno, I'm not up on all the latest tech gear.
FYI I think the Honeywell FocusPro 6000 WIFI should be able to do about anything you want...they are a lil pricey but I have seen some good deals on 'em on ebay.

Or like you said, if you know when you are returning to the cabin then just program the tstat to bring up the heat as needed...many/most of the 7 day tstats can be programmed to have a "temp change" up to 4 times per day, and each day individually.

Question: If you "shut off" the stove when you leave, how will it restart? I know some stoves will re-start if power goes out while running, but not all. Other than just leaving it in standby mode (stat set very low, stove On), the other question becomes, what is the lower limit of your stat, besides actually turning it off? My Lux doesn't go below 45*F, so in your area where the temp drops below that, the stove would start up.

As others mentioned above, I think the cell phone & wi-fi stat might be the way to go, but again, what is their lower temp limit before calling for heat?

Only problem I see with that is if the stove looses power it defaults to the lowest heat setting. It will have to have power constant to keep the stove in its higher heat level settings.

This might work, Keep the stove plunged in and stat set at desired temp with a normally open contact(24V relay) in the loop should fool the stove into thinking it has dwelling up to temp. Once the contact closes it will be under stat control again. Control the relay with a 7 day timer to have it turn relay on 12 hours before you get there.

Using a Wifi stat that can be turned off would work. But must be in off or the stove will likely call for heat and consume pellets.

One caution on most programmable stat's is its lowest minimum temp may be too low. It will call for heat if the dwellings temp drops below the minimum temp. IIRC zero is their lowest setting, If cabin drops below zero it will call for heat and consume pellets.

Enviros reset to lowest heat level and if the stat is calling they will restart. Normal start up cycle on power up, But the stove will need to be manual set to its higher heat level. So unless heat level 1 can bring the temp up it still might be cold when he gets to the cabin.

Interrupting the stat circuit could be a better way to go IMHO.....

Thanks for the help . I am concerned with any solution that keeps the stove on even at low . I have interior insulated water utility room to allow for the dive in temp these water rooms run a small baseboard heater and insure I can keep water on while away . The stove even on low will eat the 120 lb hopper in 3 days ,,, so I will check out the 24 v relay on a 7 day plug timer which will trigger test at to call for heat on proper stove control passed to tstat , like it ,,, as well will check on the recommendation on above ,, will up date when hooked up ,, during winter my build of hopper extension will allow stove to remain on ,,, I should just retire and feed it my self between chopping and beers eh!!

    Hello
I luv my Lowe's Iris T-stat with swing setting that works with my computer router and iPhone so I can either turn it on or off manually with my iPhone or put it on a weekly schedule.
    See pic below.

Welcome Canuck friend:cheers: North-western part of the province with possibility of cheaper hydro than the rest of the province:D
If you have electric heat, just have a timer on it for off peak time and do without the mid/high peak times. Should be safe on the water pipes, cross fingers. Wi-fi T-stat is the way to go.
