hey guys. Picked up a carb kit for my 028 wb today (ordered one for my 034 also). I put the kit in along with a new plug and the thing still will only run on starting fluid. Fuel filter is good so is the air filter and the exhaust screen for that matter.. Ideas? Thanks.

Edit: I put the air filer on (wasn't before) and set the adj screws to factory. Started but ran horrible. No topend, sputtered and eventually died maybe 30 seconds.

Edit. I opened the plug gap some .23-24. Saw will now idle. Seems I just need to do some fine tuning. Ideas so welcome and appreciated!

Check your fuel line and pulse line, they more than likely need replaced....

Weak spark. Going to get a ignition chip thing for the 028 and the 034 as well. Have great weekend hoarders! If off to do some camping.

I will add, never use starting fluid on a two stroke. There is nowhere near enough oil to lubricate the top and bottom ends. Dribble a little mix in the carb throat instead.

What's your compression? Does it run with pouring fuel in the carb? I have one and converted it over to an electronic coil and problem solved. It had spark which looked good NOT under compression and had me baffled. Electronic Coil fixed it for me.

Arced the plug and seemed weak to me. Wild guess I suppose.
it was actually carb, choke, & tbi cleaner I had within reach but noted.
electric coil deal from red barn fixed my issue as well.

Good deal. Mine had me to the point of giving up as well. I guess that is why it was laying in a box at a distant neighbors house as the dealer had given up too. Picked it up on trash day and now it is a nice saw. Spark just got weak under pressure I guess.

Still very bad for it. don't use it. no lube and it washes the cylinder walls down of oil and you will score the piston.

Put some mix in a squirt bottle to use. way cheaper than carb cleaner too. you can also use seafoam if you have it...straight i's fine.

That trick works fine for 4 stroke but not for long or many times for 2 stroke.

If I have a saw that won't start, I just pull the plug and dribble gas mix in the cylinder

Probably easier than pulling the air filter to pour into the carb

I have an 034? I have to go check what it is. I suspect weak spark. and it has the old coil I think with the little metal toggle switch. is there a way to easily and cheaply convert this saw...assuming it's an 034....I Wil confirm the model here in a bit. I bought it cheap a year or so ago and have pretty mucheap ruled it to be a spark issue.

I had a newer fuel line develop a crack once and have the same general issue. Curious to see what you find.

Yes the 028 is up and running.

The 034 is another story. I ordered a carb kit for it when I picked up the in stock carb kit for the 028. Got around to installing it yesterday and noticed the fuel line is leaking. Dealer is $$$ so I will be ordering one online soon.
Also had another home lite super 2 top handle parts saw givin to me (have 3) so another project for the never ending list.
Today I will be working on vehicles. Rear drum brakes, wheel bearings, carrier bearings, pinion bearings, seals etc. and stacking some honey locust from a few days ago. Have a good weekend hoarders.

If you squirt a little into the carb that means it has to travel into the crankcase and then up through the transfer ports into the combustion chamber. So It will test that process. But if you just pull the plug and put fuel through the plug hole the only thing you test is spark and compression.
