So I have a big problem. I am officially 3 years ahead. Which is great news right? Now for the problem. It's offically time to move! Our 1200 sq ft ranch is full! While the house did serve it's purpose we have out grown it. What do I do with all the wood? Has anyone else ran into this dilemma? We are listing in the spring and the realtor did a walk though a few weeks ago and said its way to much to have there when we show it. Need to hear what you guys did. Thanks!!

If your new place us close and is set up to burn wood, take it with you. If not, sell it! That part is heartbreaking! :(

    Now's
    "PRIME time" to sell firewood

    Gonna need moving $$
New house will need a new saw/splitter

Then you have the fun of doing it again.

    PS: Rent a big trailer/u-haul &
take enough to your new place to get you thru a few months

Leave a cord or so with the house for the new owner
    :)

    keep things in perspective :
What kind of stove are you putting in the new place ?
    :D

Nice work and Bummer. Lot of trips and truck space to move it. Not sure how far you are moving but there could be restrictions on moving it as well because risk or spreading pest and diseases. (oak wilt, ash borer, pine beetle, dutch elm..etc) Best bet might be to sell it. Good part is a lot of people are looking for wood this time of year. Could use the cash to upgrade some gear.

Well, have you considered adding on to your home instead of moving? Often a consultant can show you how to add on and make it the dream home you are looking for. That will solve the wood issue!

By the sounds of it, you haven't really started looking but the realtor doesn't like the looks of it. So with that said I would start looking to see if you will have a stove or not then decide. Maybe you could sell it at the going rate and set your earning aside and then buy a couple log loads when you move so you are still ahead.

We've thought of it and the father in law is a contractor. Just wouldn't be worth the money as we would have to build up and not out.

I converted from a fireplace to a quadrafire insert last winter. Huge difference from a fireplace, even with the heatilator fan that we had in the FP.

Realtor says " It's way too much wood to have there when you show it"? Not if I'm buying it! Market the wood feature as insurance against power failures, natural disasters, etc. Prepping is all the rage now. Get a new realtor.:faint:

Seriously! If he doesn't think he can sell the house then what are you paying him for?

If you cant sell it or take it with you, it should get figured into the closing, like leftover fuel oil.

Exactly, someone that is buying a home is usually stretched for money. There is your heat sitting right there, no need to be oil, or as much oil. Who knows, maybe the potential buyer buyer will get into burning and join this club! woudn't that be funny.
