A ton is about a cord ? Pine, Ponderosa Pinus ponderosa 2,380/lbs/cord, Mil BTU 14.8 (ref: Sweep's Library - Firewood Heat Value Comparison Charts )
I agree with the poster that said yard maples are tough. A gnarly yard maple trunk has so far been the only thing to stop my 22 ton splitter. Of course it was also an easy 5' across and cut to my standard 24" length, so your mileage may vary. =) Straight grained maple on the other hand is probably the easiest thing going, and I still split it by hand as I can go faster than the hydro on small stuff.
This 5 ton features unique dual wedge which would help you split wood from both ends. Foot pedal would help you have easy control and efficient spiltting.
My 10 year old son split quite a bit of the maple I got last year with my electric splitter, just watch out for the splits that pop and fly apart, got him in the shin...
Here is some sugar maple my neighbor offered, took everything else but going to have these trunks hauled away, needed a bigger bar for the 660 on this day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The ponderosa pine I picked up. Going home to split . Won't touch this for at least two years at least with how sticky it was Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
