No, Dad passed away before we could set the house up; Mum passed away about 10 years ago; I get confused with how long it has been, more like 18 years since we heated with wood. Mum wanted to put in a wood stove; she was going to have a masonry chimney built when we set the house up but it took everything we had to buy the land and the house (doublewide).

if you decide you would like to get some kind of a splitter to help, , there are other options besides spending $1000.
I split all my wood with a 7 ton electric splitter.
A 5 ton electric splitter new, costs $299, but you could also find you a used one, just last week, I saw 2 of the 5 ton models on Craigslist, one was going for $100 the other was $150

Thanks, I may look and see what I can find; now that most of the winter is behind us, we had a cold snap last night here; I was covering things in the gardens.

Nice that you have the garden started,....the ground is still frozen here.
Tried to pull a couple weeds that I missed last fall, and they wouldn't come up.

veggie garden isn't ploughed yet; will need to get the Old Girl (49 8N) running. I was referring to the flower gardens and the orchard. I planted a small plum last year and it was in full bloom; 21 F or colder last night. I put two sprinklers on either side of the small plum and then placed two blankets over it. It seemed to have survived, the blooms were still white. the big plum had flower buds that had not opened and they look OK. Last year the red plum lost all the plums; they dropped which they will do. So no red plum jam last year :(

I was wanting a little 8N to plow and do various yard work (love the little 8N or the slightly later series). Long story but my ex accidentally got the one in my avatar instead at an auction. Its like completely not an 8N lol. And I have nothing that fits it. So still plowing the garden with my little cub cadets and a single bottom plow or I got a rotary tiller attachment that works ok too. I planted a few plum trees when I bought this house, they died. :( Was so looking forward to fresh plums, dad always said the store bought ones simply didn't compare (they had plum trees whaen he was a kid). I'd like to make plum wine too :drunk: maybe some day!

With the stove sorted; I am still in awe that someone is going to give me a stove; I am so happy , I need to learn about the chimney. Are there some threads on here that I can read?

    Good call.
All of the Class A pipe makers have this info on their sites as well. Selkirk, Duravent, Hart & Cooley,.......etc. This is the only one I could easily find, but open the pdf, then scroll to page 16 for a through the wall setup.

It is going to be a DIY; with help from my friend (I hope); there is no money to hire someone to do it for me. I will start doing my reading assignment.

    There'll be a quiz later.:rofl: :lol::thumbs:
Seriously though, follow the directions (especially regarding clearances to combustibles) and ask for help if there are questions.

Maybe look at pricing on ICC pipe. It is excellent pipe and chimney, and MAY be available at a good price. Should be: the Canadian dollar is devalued about 20%, and the pipe is made in Quebec.

PM me an e mail address, i have been working on a book for a little over a year and have a fair amount of data on that subject stored in my computer at home. i may be able to copy and paste excerpts from the book draft to you.

other than that yes there are a heck of a lot of threads that concern chimneys (install and issues) here. do soome digging when you have time to search around, or ask any specific questions you have and we'll answer them

oh and while im at it a HUGE hats off to @Canadian borderVT for the offer of that stove.

I know this is an OLD thread... but I am wondering if there was an update thread anywhere?
I just want to know how everything worked out.
