My mind was wandering this afternoon, and I made a pretty cool Google Earth discovery - at least I think so. This pic is an aerial view of my sister's house, and I'm pretty sure I remember this day. That tree is the 4' diameter black walnut I helped take down and cut up (also in my avatar pic). Parked next to it is my little JD + trailer and my brother-in-law's pickup. I'm pretty sure the aerial pic is from the day I milled the first log from this tree. Here's what was happening on the ground:
That's awesome! My house on Google currently has my oldest daughters name mowed into the front yard from this spring.
Government pictures are much more detail that what we see. I think most of them are also taken in winter to show all the buildings and other things that would be blocked from view of airplanes in summer months. Not sure what they do further south.
Funny you should bring that up Shawn. Here is a picture (older picture) of part of our place and those who were at the gtg will no doubt recognize where this is. But circled in red is me on the atv. I was turning around with the packer after working up the ground for that food plot. Circled in blue are some wood piles. For those who have seen some of the pictures of our gtg, in the lower right hand corner is where Shawn had his picture taken many times while he was milling some spruce. Of course there were many others there watching and participating. Shawn also split some wood by hand while bocefus78 was splitting some wood using Pallet Pete splitter. We had a grand time.
Well that will keep them from reading your thoughts, but they'll still be able to see your bunker! I think what NortheastAl was trying to say is that it needs to be in the shape of a hat in order to have any radar jamming antenna type qualities. Its not too late though - you can still construct a massive hat and place it on your lawn and claim its a modern art metal sculpture or something. They won't suspect a thing....
I also spy the stumpy pine barrens that misled a group of rescuers one particular night..... "I know the way" was proclaimed from behind the Beard....
If there is a "protected" water basin critter habitat etc "they" can use lidar or gpr to essentially take the property. If it's on their agenda. But yeah they can see several meters into the earth. Not sure about how far airborne units can penetrate. They use it to Map forest etc. Ny dot and dec uses it all the time! Beats using surveyor's!
They can also tell you the composition of your soil from the satellite imaging. It's accurate too. It is used by the Dept. of Agriculture. I looked mine up years ago. Forgot the name of the soil, but it had come down from Massachusetts by glacier and is good for growing Apple trees. There are a lot of orchards in the area.
I believe if you had been there for that, the whole thing woulda been bumped up a notch above "epic".... And not because you'd have to have stayed up to 1:30-2:00 am in the morning.....
