This was left for us by Matthew, an 80' plus red oak, uprooted in our front yard Saturday afternoon. We are over 100 miles from the coast, but this can happen with 9" of rain and 40 mph winds. Don't really need the firewood, but it was blocking our driveway, so had to get it cleaned up. Got the driveway cleared today, but still have a lot to do. If you don't need the firewood, look for a local Woodmizer or other portable bandmill operator and have the trunk below the first crotch milled into lumber.(?) Just a thought. I've had great luck with this. Woodmizer has a "Find a Local Sawyer" function on their website. Find a Local Sawyer Look at the end of the butt log and see if there is black staining to indicate embedded steel/iron.

Don't need the firewood? Are you sure you are on the right site? The more wood the better :dex::axe::axe::axe::saw::saw:

Well it landed in a convenient place for you anyway.... Lots of wood there, who doesn't like red oak...?

Those rounds from the trunk are going to be heavy...

If that thing fell over my driveway, I wouldn't know where to stack it all. I'm pretty full up right now.

Well to bad you lost the tree but is does look like some great fire wood. Probably better it fell across the drive way then toward the house.

Looks like you have it all under control.

How about your neighbors any of them loose any trees or have damage.

Sometimes I walk around the back yard and hope certain trees come down via mother nature. I certainly can drop them on my own, but my wife and others cannot complain about mother natures felling :dex:

Sucks to see such a nice tree come down that way. Nice job on the cleanup. Be careful with that bottom section that the root mass doesn't flip back while you are removing blocks/logs from the lower section. I have seen it happen as weight from the log is removed.
