Hey guy and girls, Fingers crossed we will be moving to a 2,477 sqft rancher in northern North Carolina. So plan and simple, what wood stove should I buy for this house and climate?

Mine's sitting in my parents garage right now waiting for my house to finish getting built! Sheetrock is going up this weekend! Hope to be in by December!! And the stove will be installed the same day for sure! Chimney is already installed and boxed in, just hook up the interior pipe and :fire:. Thinking its going to be much appreciated after moving in the cold.

Congratulations Rob. What stove could depend upon your climate and that could depend upon your elevation. But it would be difficult to go wrong with a Woodstock stove. Perhaps the Absolute Steel would really be ideal or even an Ideal Steel. You get some nice long and controlled burns from these. The Absolute would give you more choices in looks and there are some great designs. But, it is still difficult to beat soapstone and we love our Fireview. However, for that square footage, the Fireview might be a bit small.

Good Luck and congrats on the move! Now-a-days there are so many options out there, I'm a Smoke Dragon burner  But if I had to do a new stove I'd have to go to the Ideal steel also! They are sweeeeeeeeeet! :)... But break out the cha-ching! :emptywallet:

We removed our new tiny epa approved stove and reinstalled the old smoke dragon a couple weeks ago.

Hope you will get the heat you want from it. With your home all tightened up now, it should be more efficient.

Already burned it a few times, it still ROCKS!! New paint smell gone, sits 1/2 way out from fireplace so alot more radient heat, and huge firebox so we don't have to stoke it every few hours!! (keep in mind no hardwood here for overnight burns)

That stove you have is a sweetie! Not sure what you're burning in a winter, I got my Grandma tuned in with the baffle to about 4 to 5 cord a winter. With that said, my winters are in no way close to yours I'm sure. I can't be exactly sure of what year but I'm gonna say 2012 or 2013 when we got the real cold hit here :shiver:, that was the first I went over 6 cord for the winter with one exception back in 1995! We froze our A$$es off and I just about hit 7 cord. But I do "really" like the IS stove, Just not gonna buy one when I got 7 Fishers lying around... :whistle:;)

WeldrDave, I only had it for 1 year and last year was warm.. went through 4.5 cord.. 2 weeks of 0 ish.. but my house is so not normal 16 to 17 foot vaulted ceilings etc.. etc.. my uncle down by Woodstock VT has a regular raised ranch.. half basement 2 car garage.. half finished.. well built home probably 45 years old... I think 26 by 32.. anyway fisher mama bear in basement.. 3 or 4 years ago he sent it out to be re- furbished cost him 700 dollars:bug: he says it was 30 YO and needed a complete overhaul this guy is normally a do it yourself guy.. it looks and runs like new now.. he averages 7 to 8 cord a year...

I do not know what a re-hab cost but good side money since you seem to do it anyway.,,

WOW!!!!!! :bug::jaw: Is the best I can say! Most of the work is all labor. Paint and fire brick was maybe $150.00 New spring handles were $20.00 so at best $200.00 for the stove. thats $500.00 in labor...:picard:
