My wife found this old cedar shingle saw blade and picked it up at a swap shop in pretty pitiful shape. I derustified it with a grinder, then welded in the bigger center hole with a slug, ground it smooth, painted it, and machined it out for a clock works. Taking the hands off a broken clock we found at Walmart, we got it to fit with a bit more machining, then fastened battens on top to hold the saw up, and one on the bottom so it lays flat against the wall. Then the wife got some numbers, tole painted some dashes between the numbers and it actually keeps accurate time. A fun project for sure. Now I am debating whether or not I should break out the big saw blades we got. This one is 30 inches in diameter, but the two we have here are 48 inches. Now those would be BIG clocks, but I'll wait to see how quickly, and for how much this saw clock goes for first.
I told the wife, put $85 on it and if you don't get that (what she wants for a price) we'll keep it. I don't see a reason to lower the price. We are not ready to put in our new office just yet, but it would look great there.
There was a working shingle mill at the one fall festival we went to last Saturday. That's a great looking clock, LodgedTree!
It did not take long to sell. A guy I worked with at the shipyard wanted it as soon as he saw it. Well that or Katie...he joked with her that she should deliver it personally in her little red dress! (He might have seen a picture of her in it when I worked along side him, but the guilty shall remain nameless). I used to log with his father who taught me a lot about logging and he is building a camp up north and wanted to decorate it. Now camp is a relative term. It is probably bigger and better then my house. I was able to pick up two cross-cut saws on our way to a wedding this past weekend in New Hampshire. Ten bucks a piece for a felling and bucking saw. I got to clean them up and put handles on them, but I bet they will sell pretty quick. The guy having the yard sale even had 100 feet of half inch cable for $25 which was a good deal. My little dozer is not much, but it can break cable yarding wood easily enough. For $25 its worth having on hand.
