Interesting, Did you happen to snap a pic?

I didn't think the VA. plant did a softwood version and most(that I have seen) bedding pellets are 100% softies.

I'd imagine like the heating pellets they(TSC) are getting them from many suppliers. Or one would think anyway. I bet many of the mills being slow, Tried to produce something to keep productive. And made some bedding as fill ins??

The TSC horse pellets down here , have the TSC dummy bar code , so don't know who makes them :hair:. I burned a few bags , they worked , but in PA they are taxed , because they are not fuel , so that jacks the price up .

i'm learning here, but it seems that hardwood pellets have a tannin that the horses don't tolerate. so the bedding pellets are softwoods. i'd guess the same as anyone producing a softwood. so it would follow to buy the fuel pellet and avoid the tax man

I burned 'em last year, nice pine smell and average performance. I was told they don't have the "stuff" that would be bothersome to horses.

They must get them from multiple suppliers. The store near me has pallets of the TSC branded horse bedding and they have a label on the outside wrap that says Equustock, LLC - same company that produces Big Heat pellets.

Couple of very interesting articles here:
Equustock Horse Bedding, Cat Litter, Absorbents and Fuel Pellets

I tried some 2 years ago, they did not do very good. Ended up mixing them to empty the Hopper.

The ones I got did not have a pine smell like others talked about. Wish I could find some pine ones to test.

That was my experience too, They were very dark and were easily the worst pellet I've ever tried to burn.

I know at least one pellet retailer in MA is touting fuel pellets for horse bedding, cat litter, oil soak up etc. Seems a shame to be advertising LeCretes, Spruce Points and such for those purposes - but to be fair, I can't get 40# of cat litter for the price per bag he is looking for, so why not?

I seem to remember folks recommending the light colored ones versus the dark. I had the light colored ones and although a little ashy, burned fine.
