40 bucks, 70cc, a few hours of surgery in the work shed = fun!

Haven't seen much here on any vintage saws as of late, been walking by this blast from the past for a few months now at one of my regular stop antique/thrift type stores, finally made an offer and they took it, had great compression but was quite dirty but complete, pulled it all down for a good cleaning and go-over, no big issues along the way, but did find a few small things that needed put back right, found an NOS bar and chain, and now the old Mac 7-10 means business once again!, forgot how great these old puppy's can run, decided not to do a full restore because I want to put it to work, can't wait to get 'er out in the woods for a workout!.....

 

Snappy lightweight (around 15 lbs powerhead only) beast that'll pull 32" bar/full comp chain all day long.Produced from September 1970 to September 1971 its the predecessor of the even more popular Pro Mac 700 of same displacement.

Had mine about a year now,its in regular rotation with 6-7 others that see frequent use.

 

Yep, kinda nice to have several saws to rotate around, I had an NOS Pro Mac 700 that I never cut with to keep it NOS, sold it on the bay several years ago for a tidy sum!, this 7-10 will see action!....

 

Some of the old Macs are quite the saw. I did not realize though they were at 15 lbs PHO. 40 bucks how can one refuse that.

 

A buddy of mine has a pretty nice original 2-10 at the shop where I work, been trying to talk him out of it...........I'll try again today!

 

These 7-10's, well most all of the ten series are only about a pound heavier than a husky 272....

 

Hmmm......this vintage original mac brochure states a much lighter saw, only 12.5 pounds PHO......

 

I remember carrying my Dad's 6-10 in and out of the woods when he was on the dozer. It sure seemed like more than 12.5 lbs, but hey, I was only 11!
Still have his PM 850 that he bought in 1979. Haven't started it a few years-that is a saw!

 

My PM850,had it since June 2015.Had 28"/full chisel buried in Red Oak a few weeks later,hardly slowed it down.That 5 cube/82cc beast is rated to pull 36",I can believe it.I keep a 20" on it most of the time,that screaming beast is like a light saber.

You definitely need that decomp valve when starting.
