It's a real shame how much giant BV white ash the Pennsylvania game commission is letting go to waste on the game lands across the whole Commonwealth.
Hope there are enough resistant Ash left to save the species. The American Chestnut Tree blight wiped out 3-4 billion chestnut trees in 50 years. It was a fungus. All started in NYC in 1904. Doesn't take much to upset the balance of nature.
Instead of cutting and managing the woods for needed revenue they just raise license prices. I've never understood that concept. Trees are a renewable resource. Why not farm them?
They don't care, funny thing is as residents of Pa they are our trees, managed by the inefficiencies and corruption of the bureaucracy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I never thought my area had all that much ash (I am a few miles northeast of Scotty) until the Ash started dying. Then I realized how common they are. Were.
We'll be coming down your way soon to stock up on apples for the winter, Wood Duck. When is the fall festival at Way Fruit Farm?
The one bush I get wood from is made up of probably 40% white ash, I've been picking through slowly but I've seen lots of new growth! Lots of little sugar maples popping up every where only have to wait about 35 years before I can tap em.
Nice take down! Lucky to have a strong enough tree to rig out of most people around here like to let them go to far past dead then wonder why no one would come climb it
Some of the White Ash here, leaf growth in the tops seems thin and pale. I know Ash trees are some of the first to drop their leaves, so I'm hoping that's what I'm seeing. I haven't seen any D-shaped exit holes but I haven't been looking real close yet. On the dead ones I've been cutting, there has been a little wood dust on a couple of the lower trunks, like powder post beetle dust...is that some other borer, or is that associated with the EAB?
It could be from the borer but methinks most likely from PPB. At least we've not noticed dust from the EAB here.
