Took down another big oak (75 footer) at that job we've been working on Friday evening......still have a red maple to piece down and the oak trunks to drop but the nasty stuff is on the ground and cleaned up..... Pic from where I topped the front leader at around 45 foot up... Some "man glitter"... Before you all harp on me about not wearing glasses, it was so damm hot and humid, they were fogging up....so off they came. This was dropping the front leader but log. It was around 12' long and 2.5' diameter. That was Joe's MS661 with the 28" bar in the tree.
Pure awesomeness, man. Not sure exactly what part of the state you are in but I know it's near Altoona and I know for a fact that when it's 85° in Somerset County it's 90° in Blair County its brutal here at the moment. I sure wouldn't be wanting to climb in this heat! You're an animal!
Yes we're near Altoona, this most recent job is near the PSU Altoona Campus. At the base of Wopsononock Mountain. It was brutal, I'm ready for fall!!!
A little update on some of these trees, we hauled them off of the one job site two weeks ago and I'm happy to say they've been turned into 1200bd ft of beautiful lumber! Big load on the old trailer, we also put 4 logs on Joe's truck and one in mine.... Unloading them at my buddy's mill.... Red oak, white oak and red maple, ready to sticker and band!! Some slabs off of the logs, we'll get more boards from these once the rain quits....
Do you sell the lumber or have plans for a project? Fantastic pictures, My first view of this thread. No way would I be able to climb like that. I have a horrid phobia of height. You earn every cent for what you guys do to remove those tress.
I wish you lived closer to me. I've got a 60' red oak I between the house and shop that needs to come down and a 70' white oak in the back that needs to come down also. I've gotten estimates from $3000-$9000. I'm guessing the $9000 guy doesn't get much business or doesn't want the work.
Although it's supposed to be around here, I've never IDed any outright, but in the first pic on page 1 that looks like what I'm seeing in the Audubon Guide for Scarlet Oak leaves and bark...
Naaaw......just an ordinary average guy. It's my cheap thrill, being a wood and chainsaw addict....lol
They said the wood is marketed as Red Oak. I'd guess maybe Black Oak is, too. Did you happen to hear any Joe Walsh songs this morning?
