Could live or live without the Ramboxes, I think I would rather not have them because I couldn't reach anything in the bed, but this is theory!

Yep. Un-lock it by twisting the dial/handle in the middle, then just pull out the two side arms toward you which makes it shorter and come off the walls. Now you can move it to any position in the bed and lock it back into place, OR leave the arms 90 degrees to the main part (which makes a big 3 sided rectangle, clip it to the tailgate area and it extends the bed to the end of the tailgate in the open position.

Do the Ram boxes unlock with the key fob?

Yes they do! They also have a regular key/lock as well you can use instead. I would bet the lower end models without the "keyless entry" options and "convenience" packages only work with the key.

Why is that? I LOVE that fact. Actually, I did not notice this fact at the dealership, I was opening them up at the dealership to check them out with the key which was kind of a pita. When I got home I discovered they locked and unlocked with the FOB which is awesome. Especially if you leave them unlocked, when you get somewhere and lock the doors, they get locked also.

If I opened the door with the key fob to get my phone out and didn't lock it again the boxes would be left open too.

That is cool. I thought they would work off the fob.

You would not be worried about the $60k truck unlocked, the $100 of tools in the Rambox would bother you instead?

But in my case it's not a problem, they keyless entry convenience package on mine means everything locks with the touch of the button on the door handle if the key is in proximity (pocket, bag...). To get in the truck, keys in pocket or bag..., you just grab the door handle and it senses the key and unlocks all. It's a no brainer...

Trucks now a days are not that easy to steal with the transponder chips. Sure a hacker the if can steal them but not just any methead.
Yours has a key? Do your doors have a key hole? Like I said I have a 2016 Ram 1500 4x4 tradesman crewcab. I have no key holes anywhere. All I have is this stupid key/fab thing that unlocks doors and you stick it in dash to drive.

You do likely have a key hole in the front doors. It's on the door handle and kinda hidden/hard to see. There is an "emergency key" inside the key fob, in case either the key fob or trucks battery go completely dead you can still open the door. The key also works for the tailgate and Ramboxes if you wish to manually lock/unlock them for some reason (they normally lock/unlock with fob).

I don't have to put the key into anything to dive, just keep in pocket. But my 2007 Mini has been like that for years so I'm used to that part... push button start.

Pretty soon and this is NO JOKE, you will get an RFID chip inserted into your wrist and that chip will be used as the key to vehicles, home and office doors, and likely your banks atm's.... We are just becoming #'s in this world!! I can just hear the conversations in a singles bar in a couple of years:

guy: "Hi, I am 246387, who are you, you live around here?"
girl: "I'm 23415, take a walk fella my boyfriend #65345 is in the bathroom!"
    .....
    .....

My thoughts exactly...A $400.00 saw is much easier to walk away with than a truck and if the methhead can steal the truck, he can most likely get in it locked or unlocked!

Your problem is solved! ;) I ran out to grab something out of the back seat of truck today, and un-locked the door with the keyfob. I then realized, there is a software setting to either unlock all doors with 1 click, or only unlock the drivers door. I have it set for drivers door only. If I want all doors, just click it again (two clicks). So if you have it set like I do, the Ramboxes do not unlock when you click the fob once.

You can also have it lock all the doors 1 minute after existing when the fob has been removed from the vehicle.... so you could grab your phone, close the door and walk away...

Exactly. If a crack head wants to get in, he will whether it's locked or not. I've often said, sometimes your better off leaving things unlocked, that way they won't break everything if they do rob you. Either way they get your "Stuff", but if you lock it, they will also break the lock, door frame....
