The general population could benefit imo from coinciding with an engineering (math) major. It pushes them into something they may not be good at or like(me math)
I live with an engineer(most are in their own league lol), so I completely understand the mindset lol.
Even alot of engineers know math but on site can't actually build or problem solve.(critical thinking!)

Still no excuse for not knowing how grades are averaged lol. There was always somone who asked the stupidest of questions constantly! But looking back it built a tiny skill called patience and I learned to stay on my own train of thought while listening to a clown.

I think some kids are jammed through the system and that's what you get.
I think school is becoming playtime as well. So feel as not to judge all based on a few turds.

I graduated college in 2003. I was a few years older than most of my peers as I didn't go to college right after high school. I distinctly remember being in one particular class where the other students were asking the professor if they could have more time to study for the test and he actually agreed and moved the test date back. That was 13 years ago. It's gotten so much worse since then. The vast majority of today's college students are nothing but self absorbed middle to upper middle class, special little snowflakes who've been coddled their whole lives and who've been allowed to believe that their delicate PC sensibilities should be the ultimate litmus test for EVERYTHING that goes on in the world today. Bunch of useless, good for nothing whiny little pizzants is all they are and all they'll ever be if our culture doesn't turn around pretty quick.

I was going to go on a rant but decided not to.

Slightly dangerous hobbies is my outlet.

That's an entirely different problem! For my sophomore year and senior year we had design projects where we'd build a concept in CAD, and then physically build the item (welding, machining, drilling, bolting together, painting, etc). You could farm out the work or do it yourself, but the school did provide access to the shop if we wanted to do the work ourselves. I had to show 2 different student's that were assembling parts how a ratchet works!!

At my last job we had a mechanical engineer co-op that didn't know the difference between a Phillips and slotted screwdriver!!

Get out your coloring books or your chainsaws, because honestly I think many of you are stressing over the next generation needlessly.

My Grandfather used to say this, "When you are under 40, you can be liberal because you don't have anything and want everyone else to pay for it, but once you hit forty, you start being conservative because you have stuff and you realize you worked hard to get it." They'll come around...

Myself, I believe the greatest resource this country ever had; then or now, is the blue collar workers who had skills and work ethic. That combination cannot be beaten. However today we somehow feel that is wrong. Nope, read Chapter 2-Chapter 3 of Genesis in the bible, work came BEFORE sin, the fall of mankind; work therefore is a very good thing!

That was actually how my family got started here in Maine. We were originally from Cambridge MA, and Harvard College had a ship that sailed constantly between Cambridge, MA and Belfast Maine to cut firewood for its 157 fireplaces it had to keep stoked with wood. In the early 1700's one family member came to log but never went back and instead stayed. However during the French and Indian War during the Luisburg Siege, my Great Grandfather 9 times removed lost his life, and for his loss his father was given the land we have now. We have it to this day because we were hardly loyal and switched sides, fighting with Henry Knox during the American Revolution and was allowed to keep what we had. So officially we have been here since 1746 , but unofficially before that.

So yup, all started because Harvard needed some firewood.

To paraphrase your grandfather, one of my favorite quotes is from Winston Churchill:

“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.”
