I believe the height has to do with comfort and the arch in your back.

Up here if you're going to work for someone in the industry those boots won't do .
Here's my new pair of logging boots that I bought last month .

I believe Wescoboots have a kevlar lined and Haix makes chainsaw boots as well .

A loggers boot will tend to keep your body weight forward, hence the higher heel and also will give you a higher lacing in the ankle to keep you from a bad twist or braking you ankle. Keeping your body weight forward can be critical when cutting so as not to fall back and wind up crushed. Lastly, the uppers material is generally thicker and more able to stand up to abuse than the standard work boot. I wear a military boot that was designed similar to that but with nylon materials but lace high up the ankle for support, "which" is needed on ships and vessels. :)

Nice boots Dancan and I understand in your climate, and good to know WeldrDave concerning the thicker uppers-I had my heart set on the Chippewa Steel-toe Snake boots, the only ones I"m aware of but at that price ($274-289!) I went for thicker leather, more cognizant eyes and maybe even wait till after the first frost-Again, 3yr plan accomplished, you cut when you want to...yeah, I like it...TY FWH

Thanks for the answer. I also wear a steel toed military boot when I cut that has an "athletic" sole, but only because I have super wide Fred Flintstone feet and they were on clearance for 70% off in 3e width, which is almost wide enough for my toes!
