Hi folks. Going to be in Erie, PA in a couple days. Any suggestions on something to do if it rains all day like predicted. Family oriented stuff. OK...go
Drive to Pittsburgh, lots of family things to do there!! Used to be the only reason to go to Erie was the Lake, that has most likely changed since I was a youngin'
Yep. Water/fishery is the big attraction in Erie. Not much else to do. I'd definetly drive the loop around the peninsula raining or not. About a month ago there were 10 trillion billion zillion purple martins gathering there for the annual migration but I'm sure they've left by now. It's grape season and all the wineries up into NY right along the lake on Rt 5 might be neat to check out. And Rt 5 is the way to Niagara Falls . Nearby Jamestown ,NY has the Lucille Ball museum and an aviation museum.chautauqua institution is a cool place just to drive through . Nearby Titusville is the birthplace of oil. Drake oil museum. There is a train ride in Titusville that takes you out to Kinzua Bridge which was deemed the 8th wonder of the world at one time. It was taken down by a microburst about 10 years ago. I'll try to think of some more stuff today. You just missed the annual tall ships last week in the bay. Letchworth state park is 2-3 hours out of Erie but worth the drive if you have time. There's a cool Museum in the park. Me and the Mrs. Like to drive up there every fall to leaf peep. Cuba cheese shop is a must stop if you goto Letchworth. The garlic ranch cheese curd and smoked Guda is the BOMB ! Salamanca is an Indian reservation . Pretty cool Seneca Indian museum. There's also an antique mall in that town that is unbelievable . The buffet at the casino is killer.
Coolsprings corn maze is fantastic family fun 1 hour south of Erie on St Rt 62. Haven't a clue how to post with a link, but you can look it up.
