I finally got a chance tonight to start on my growing list of removals. First on the list was a decent sized ash which had a back lean toward a cabin. I was intimidated by it for sure, but I just took my time and made every cut and wedge count and I hit my mark. My good friend in this picture was a huge help, we had that tree blocked hauled away and all the branches cleared in 3 hrs! I'm glad this one is doneo_O.

You know, I felled a few big Ash trees today myself and was thinking, "I should be taking some pictures of this", then I hung two of them up and thought, "it is better that I didn't"...and I was not felling any close to a house.

    Nice job and excellent pictures!

I cut one today...yes an Ash as well, and it was not huge, maybe 20" in diameter, but big enough and leaning the wrong way. Since having so many chainsaw-get-crushed mishaps lately I have made it a point to directional fell better. So I pull out the wedges and tap it into place after just starting my back cut...then...

    ...cut right through the hinge.

The darn tree starts to turn on the stump and topple 90 degrees to the right and my saw is stuck. MY NEW SAW! So as the tree is falling I am like "no, no no you don't" and am pushing on the tree like I am dancing with a fat girl (and yes incidentally I admit I have danced many a song with a fat girl, but I digress), finally I realize my 180 pound carcass is not going to sway a 2 ton tree much, so I let it go and it landed JUST beside the saw. Phewwwwwww...

Yeah, glad no houses were around on that one!

Nice cabin! I'm looking forward to cutting a bunch of ash this winter myself. But first things first-- hunting season opens this weekend with the youth deer hunt. Hoping my boy can put one down this weekend.

Note: Yellow jackets do not like it when you drive over their nest with a bulldozer. Now I know what Mrs. Porcupine feels like when she has amicable domestic relations with her husband (5 bee stings).

It's not my cabin, I just saw a dead ash and decided to cut it down.... Just kidding, not about it not being my cabin but...oh nevermind No, but seriously this a customer of mine I just recently built them a bathroom in the cabin and they knew I burn wood and asked if I wanted their dead ash trees. I said well...sure:loco:  I still have soo many on my own land that I need to go after, but they are all in the swamp and I don't like to work too hard if there is an option B. That is more funner and easier:smoke:

That's not funny Splitsnstacks but I've been mowing over just one particular area on my 3 acres of lawn for over 40 years and what we call "sand hornets" here (they have a striped, faint yellowish-green stripe pattern on their tails) and I have never, ever been stung by one? They are a good size too-but I join with you in hating things that sting...yellow jackets are the worst...like that dang thing is electricized (hey is that a new word?)

Electricized is a good enough word for for me! And yes they are just that! I swear it was just one that bit me directly in the buttocks it just kept stinging they don't stop. Glad I'm not allergic because I'm constantly getting stung by them and wasps in the summer months.. I don't know why they like me
