Yep there are tons of sellers that do that. A lightly used ms290 could be worth $400 + in parts on ebay. You make more stripping them down but it's more work. I think you made a good decesion. And hope this puts an end to this issue and the problem is in that recoil assembly itself.
no valves on a 2stroke.. there are ports however.. i dont think its pawls on the crank recoild assy. sounds like a piston issue.. crank or piston rod bearings seizing up.. i domt mean to scare you.. just that there should be no reason a small 2 stroke is that hard to pull.
Decomp valve for easier starting, not intake/exhaust valve (4 stroke style) is what she was saying....
And the saw runs fine after starting...even starts OK...sometimes My money is on the new recoil fixing it...
There is a decompression valve on many larger saws. I don't think the 290 has one though. But the 390 does.
I got the used OEM in the post yesterday but was too busy with chores and stacking wood to get a chance to put it on. Will try to do so tomorrow.
Yeah, whats another 20 pages and 5 months in getting this resolved anyway?? (Sorry Kim, but I had to look back just how long this has been going on and dragged out!) Get it fixed today!
And in those 20 pages I replaced the pawl(s), then replaced the spool on recommendations. What difference dose it make. Also in those 20 pages I have been using the saw cutting wood. It's all good.
Some saws, like my dolmar 6100, have reed valves. They have been use in saws in the past but its not that common.
20 pages for a recoil................................. just wonder how many if the saw need full rebuild
