Thanks for the concern but I drove into work this morning. I wasn't sure about the road conditions and didn't want to round a curve going 45-50 mph, in the dark (at 4:45 am) and find that big branch across the road. Plus, it was mighty cold out this morning; in the low 40's. I am so spoiled by having the last month (and more) of mornings in the 60's (68 the other day), with "cold" mornings in the high 50's that low 40's feels freezing. I'll ride later this week and get used to the cooler mornings.

Better safe than sorry for sure.

I lost a small maple at the cottage over the weekend (6" or so) due to a combination of wind and saturated ground.
Limbs/trees across the road in the dark are no fun at all.

    Naw, we won't do that!
Have our jobs lined up for us and we will be able to get them done without the interruptions that sometimes happen.
You, know-those little emergencies that come in throughout the day?

Yesterday's adventure came in the form of a missing dog, the brown one in my avatar.

I was fencing off 2 sections of the yard and watching my son. Almost done fencing and I stepped in dog sh&t. That's it, time for then to go inside so I can seed in peace.

Only one came after the whistle. The brown dope nowhere in sight. Fast forward 2.5 hours and a lot of searching with a lot of neighbors on the lookout... I had locked him in the back shed.

He doesn't bark or whine, but finally did when it was now dark and I decided to try and use the black lab to sniff him out.

We kept saying, he never gets close to the electric fence border and has only ever left the yard once before.

And so the grass seed was never planted.

Glad all ended well. We had something similar happen many years ago with our German Shepherd getting onto the storage under the concrete raised patio. She went through an open door and pushed it closed. We looked for hours and we no less than five feet from her and she made not a whimper. Finally, she jumped through the screen ventilation window while we were standing there. It was like she dropped out of the sky. We were so grateful she was safe.

For a few days after breaking my elbow I was sorta miserable, not being able to do much, not even drive. But then I realized there wasn't much I could do about it so I might as well enjoy myself, besides there are a lot of people with bigger problems.
There's hundreds of acres behind my house with lots of trails so I go for a walk every day, I enjoy that.
I get to spend plenty of time here.

This is getting to be a perfect time for woods walking. Fall colours and cooler weather. I am sure you are mentally marking the trees for future firewood as you go.

Yes, it's very beautiful. The leaves are just starting to change here. I've found plenty of trees that I need to cut down.

whenever we take the dogs out to the woods, campinspecter can't help but look around for possible firewood scavenging. We can't take down trees around here but there is usually lots on the ground after they log an area.

Nice. Early yet though. I hope to take another ride up through there in 3 weeks or so. Just drive for half a day or so.

Long 12 hour day at the job. Rest time. My legs are sore from that race. But it was a great weekend with the family. I know it's a slow going process but it really seems like it is starting to get dark faster now. Not enough time in the day as it is for everything we have to do.

For sure on the time constraints! And failing daylight!
You can hear the minutes ticking away as every sunset is so much earlier!!!

Shorter daylight days can be really depressing. I have one of those "happy lights to sit in front of for 15-20 min. in the morning. It is suppose to help the brain avoid the depression that comes with the shorter days. Just sit in front of it in the morning while having coffee. Not liking the shorter days, but not willing to move to the other side of the equator to deal with it so lights on!
