She typically need a hose down after being in the swamp. Would be great for ss, as it compares to softwoods. Id css it!

I've burned a bit. It's pretty light when it dries out. Burns pretty quickly but not as quickly as pine. With a cat stove you can really stretch out the btus. Decent for shoulder season.
I have a lot of Red Maple and it is good firewood. It has a nice all-purpose quality: lights fast but has reasonable density and BTUs. Seasons fast, splits well.
I don't know if that's the same as red maple around here but I burned a bunch of it, pretty good stuff. Red maple the whole winter? Must have been a big tree or a lot of em. You must have burned up all the dead elm huh

Red maple is a nice firewood in my opinion. I even burn it in the dead of winter and I have no problems staying nice and toasty.
I burned a fair bit of it last Winter. I think it smells bad. But it makes heat. Got a swamp full of it too. More loads per day than red oak , but fewer than eastern white pine.
Used a different pute last night and finally got a pic of some of the work the pair of them have been doing.
Scopes, I burn and have burned "many years" of maple, It's really abundant here! Shallow root system and usually comes down with some good nor-easters so I'm never hurting for it. It's a medium BTU wood, not super hot "especially" when it's in the teens to 0* outside but will keep you warm. It's not a good "all night" wood so during the day I burn it and at night before sack time I throw on a big split of oak or hickory for the night. If it's good and dry, it's a clean wood and won't gum up the chimney. It will also dry in a season if is exposed to sun and breeze. After Hurricane Sandy I had so much I gave 8 cord away to folks who really needed it. Again, as some have said, it burns and if you got it, burn it, it's not bad!
Thanks gang! Have a bunch of dry elm if needed and what weve been doing is cutting up the standing,laying,half dead maple and will be burning the somewhat punk stuff this fall and spring. Just not sure about stacking it outside without it going punky over time? Will be top covering it at the least.
Red maple is a great all around wood. I love burning the stuff. Cuts nice, splits nice, seasons fast and is in the middle to upper part of the road in regards to BTUS.
