Been working evenings after work and last weekend and pretty much have half the pile of logs cut split and piled in the shed. picture 147.jpg
My 23 year old son helped me a couple of those evenings after he worked all day too. He split while I piled.
I have to say I'm going with Backwoods Savages mode of splitting. Tried it both ways and sitting is much better when you're working solo.

I now have three full rows piled and started the fourth tonight.

I should get quite a bit more done this long weekend.

When I built the woodshed about twenty years ago I was under the impression that since it didn't have any walls and was away from any other buildings that I didn't need a building permit. A few short years after it was built the lot a few hundred feet away was sold and the new owner started building a house on it. One time the inspector was inspecting something over there and looked across and saw the woodshed.
Next thing I know there's an application for a permit to build a woodshed in my mailbox from the inspector. A quick look at the township website showed they wanted footings down below frost level and sonotubes full of concrete and all kind of unnecessary stuff.
So I did the moral thing and ignored it. Never heard from him again. He also was the half brother of the guy we bought the house from so he knew damm well that it was us that built it and not the former owner. I don't know if he just let it ride or if he forgot and never followed up.

In 2009 we built an all steel 25'X40' quonset style building and for sure got the permit for that. I was out one morning building the wooden end wall and he pulls into the driveway and parks right beside the woodshed and walks over to see how I'm coming on the end wall. He pointed out something he wanted me to do differently and I agreed his way was better and got some more advice from him about finishing it off. It was a pretty good visit and my impression of him changed because I heard he was a real prick, but he never mentioned the shed at all and that's the last time I saw him again. He's retired now.

That's why I don't have a second woodshed. I refuse to go through all the expense and nonsense that they want you to do for something as simple as a woodshed but at the same time I got away with the first one without a permit and don't want to push my luck.
But by all means you really should get one built.
