My hyundai has a traditional 6 speed. No maintenance can be done to the tranny. No levels to check, nothing. If she dies she dies.
Out of all the cvt I would trust the Subaru the most. Sounds like they have the most robust system from what I have read.

Huh ?? Cant even change the fluids? Guess they figure the vehicle life is worth the life of the tranny fluid and then its scrap metal.
The throw away attitude of todays upcoming society is rather disturbing.

You may be right. There is some thought that cars are made just good enough nowadays where most folks feel they get their money's worth. 100k without major issues is great for them. They trade it in for another new one.
I have read stories of Subaru almost going out if business, because their cars were too good in the 80s or 90s they didn't have any repeat buyers, those who bought, they kept there cars until they died, which they never did.
There is also the chance that Hyundai is very confident in the longevity of the transmission that it will last without issue. It is their own in house 6 speed. Apparently it is a pretty well designed transmission with over 60 less moving parts and they filed some 300 patents.
Either way I guess I will find out. This car was bought because I wanted something small as a good commuter as I have two kids in daycare costing an arm and a leg. My next car will not be as sensible a purchase but I will keep this thing as a third car and to be used here and there.

I had a 1997 Subaru Legacy Wagon that lasted 302K miles without a single real issue other than maintenance. Did the clutch at 180K -noise related and likely just the throw bearing but replace clutch anyway since all apart. Replaced the timing belt and water pump myself at 200K. I diagnosed a misfire to the Ignition coil somewhere in there but nothing out of the ordinary.

At 302K miles engine still ran like a champ but cat converter was shot and wouldnt pass inspection. I sold it as is for 500 bucks.

That car got me through some extreme winters and alot of driving all over New England for work without ever getting me stuck in snow. 6-8 inches of snow up hill and into my garage was cake for this thing. The only snow that might slow it down was if it was too high and plowing with the front bumper.

Man I cringe at ever getting a vehicle that looks like that.

Genius move by the auto makers G: "fill for life" transmissions, guaranteed new vehicle sale every 5 to 7-10 years.
Funny how it works out that just when you finish paying the vehicle off, it's time for a new one? :D

( There is a fill-port on the trans. / you "can" change it, but one may need a chemistry set and a degree in nuclear engineering to figure out how to do it.. :picard:)

Nice!! I stopped doing my own oil changes. Not worth my trouble at the moment. I took my car up to old orchard beach recently and got 46 mpg on the way there door to door. About 120 miles. Pretty good I say. My average is 36-37
