Just one of the things that are great living in the country. This afternoon I was busy with some planting of food plot for deer. As I was working on the atv I glanced up and a deer came out of the woods and stood right in the middle of one of the areas I was not planting. She simply stood right in the middle and watched me make several rounds then casually walked off. Probably thought I was crazy just going round and around. For those who were at the get-together last spring, I was planting in the area in back where we had the big tent set up (where bocefus78 was found early Sunday morning). Funny that just a couple days ago I was going back there and suddenly one came onto the trail right in front of me and stopped. Needless to say, I did too. I did a couple of head bobs and talked to her. I was a little anxious to get going though because rain was coming. However, the deer rule here so I just waited and stayed calm. Had to wait quite some time too and yes, I got wet before I got back to the house. It was worth it too. No, I did not have a camera with me. Usually don't when working ground because usually there is dust but of course not today after all the rain we've had. Seems odd for this time of the year but it makes me very happy. I planted some clover last week and it is coming up nicely. I'll be planting some oats tomorrow if I can beat the rain.
This is a wonderful country, and I am so thankful to our Creator for it. Nature is a wonderful blessing.
Nice to hear I'm not the only one who head bobs them back Dennis I love seeing them up close. Bentley does too. You have a great place and it's easy to see your love for the outdoors and the critters. Good luck planting tomorrow.
Deer are really curious critters. Just start a chainsaw and let it idle and more times than not, there will be one nosing around trying to see whats going on..............................Fascinating to watch for sure.
Agree many times over. Now our goal is to live on it in harmony so our kids can have the same opportunities we have. Generally, wood burners are NOT polluters.
I do the head bobs and if you do it right, then comes the pawing of the ground (I guess that's what it's called) and a combination of head bobs and pawing. Did that one day for at least 20 minutes with a doe. At the end I asked her if she wanted to dance.
Playing with deer is great fun! I played tag with a doe and 2 fawns when I was bush hogging last year. Make a pass and they would move to one side of the field, next pass they would run back. This went on for half an hour.
This was a doe we raised from a new fawn after she was found abandoned about ten years ago. Pretty tame.
Yeah, they didn't like it here either. Made us give her up for relocation to a Provincial park near here but being raised by humans she probably got taken out by wolves her first night there. We'll never know.
One of my neighbors raised a doe, and when it was old enough was released. They put a livestock ear tag in one of her ears and it would come back year after year and nuzzle up to the neighbor. He in turn would scratch her head and back. The last few years I guess she hasn't been back, so she was either taken by a hunter or some animal. They let me know to keep an eye out for a deer with an ear tag and to please not shoot it, which I never did or never would knowing it was kind of a pet to someone.
Kids eat ivy too, wouldn't you. Wow, that brings back memories. My mom use to sing that song to us as youngsters!
