The ditch is not that deep in most spots now (yet). At the "high corner" we are almost 48" deep. The entire thing will be back filled so footer is 48" down all the way around. Footer will be 12" thick with rebar in it. 18" wide.

I also should tell you that ditch doesn't look very deep because it was dug 6 feet wide. Lots of room for moving/laying 1250+ block!o_O:thumbs::dex:Glad I'm paying for that to be done!

I've done block work exactly twice in my life while helping to build two houses........never want to again.
Younger brother was a mason for over 10 years. He was a maniac at it, and very good.

With the help of my wife, we took apart an old console TV and a fold out bed couch that was in a persons basement.

We hauled everything upstairs to the garage except for the old tube and the bed springs from the couch that will be picked up along with some other garbage, the guy picking it up will help with the stuff in the basement.

I hope this will be the last tube TV we deal with, those old tubes rrrrrrrrr heavy.

We did stop on the way home to have a late lunch so supper will be a bit of this or that, not what we had planned.

Cleaned out the stove, the flue, and reset the stove pipe in anticipation of burn season starting in 4.5-5 weeks.
Convection deck is installed. I turned on the blower and stood over 10 feet away. Less than 1/2 speed, and I could really feel the breeze. No racket either, other than the blower.
This could be interesting. Might need a small fire when the weather's right......just for testing purposes, of course.:D

This picture doesn't really do it justice but this u haul truck was going sideways down the interstate like he was on a dirt track. It pulled to the side that bad. When I passed him the steering wheel was at almost 3:00.

Yeah, that truck is crabbing down the highway. Those are the ones you stay far clear of.

You are really the worker! I noticed your goldenrod is in the same stage of growth as it is here. Those things are always interesting to me when I look at pictures from all the places shown on this forum.
I've often wanted to run (play) with one of those big machines. Now, I'm content to watch it being done. I hope you will keep posting pictures. thanks.

I know I am not supposed to burn paper in my wood stove, but I might make an exception in this case ... as we paid off our mortgage today. :)

    upload_2016-8-23_17-16-42.png

I know this mortgage burning stuff was a big deal years ago, not so sure if people feel the same way today or not. Truth is, I'm not sure what I would burn; I am supposed to get a release of lien document (don't think I want to burn that). I guess at some point I get the deed from the county, but don't really know how this stuff works as I have never actually owned property until now.

Looking forward to cooler weather and wood burning this winter ... if I actually burn mortgage documents, I'll be sure to post the action shots.

Well thank you Saves. Today I spent a lot of time in my backhoe. While the guy running the excavator was digging the foundation ditches I was moving material around and getting in and out of my machine to hold a grade rod for him. His boss has a laser level thankfully and instead of him climbing in and out of his machine I did a lot of that for him over the 5 hours he was here. He did a nice job and then after he left I spread all the material he took out of the ditches around the outside on the low end of the foundation. Then I got one load of bank run gravel in from a quarry and spread that on top. I'm in the process of filling and getting and then keeping things level and compacted enough so that the concrete truck can get around three sides of the foundation for pouring the forms. Makes it a lot easier for those men to have to do less wheelbarrow runs. Hopefully they won't have to do any of them. If I can get down the fourth side with my backhoe I can probably fill the bucket with concrete and bring it to them. We will see. As far as that big machine, I will have to wait a while to rent that excavator from him for pulling stumps because I need to use that money for more fill material. :(

    This was getting started. image.jpeg

And this was a huge help keeping the bottom of the ditch on grade!
