We have an apple tree and this year is really the first good year for apples.

My bride planted it but doesn't remember what varietal it is.

Can someone able to help me figure out when to harvest them?

They went from green to this color.

Last year they fell from the tree as small green apples. Is there a better time to take them?

Without knowing the variety it is hard to say. They look a long way from being ready. Once they start to redden up, pick the reddest one and chomp into it. If it makes you pucker it needs more time.o_O If your teeth sink right in and it's mush, well you screwed up and waited too long.:picard:

Strains like Macintosh are very sensitive to wind and once they are ripe you can lose half over night if the wind blows and they are ready.:(

Just check them frequently when they start looking like they are ready, you will know.

I can ship you two raccoons that will let you know the exact peak of ripeness.

Sure. Skunks don't climb grape arbors. I had two help wipe out my grape crop this year.

    Well seasoned,:salute:

    Three things:

Did you have frost this Spring, the apple set seems a low?

Have you sprayed much, very little scab which is good.

A little hard to tell from the pics, but you may have leaf miners but not at near enough density to be considered a problem. Keep an eye on that.

Thanks! I don't know if there was frost in the spring, but I'm gonna say probably (I just moved here) I haven't sprayed, not sure if the previous homeowner did. I'll check out that link, thanks....
