The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulate, at Bergen , Norway Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable. * * * * * * * * * I must apologize. I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post - 93 years ago. This must have been caused by the Model T Ford's emissions
And it comes around again. One variable not brought into effect is the known emissions that have been caused my millions of cars and factories that were not around in 1922. The earth though, can heal itself ( to an extent) if given a chance. I'm no hippy, nor industrialist, but can relate to both sides.
Year before last they had ice breakers on the great lakes because they totally froze over. Satellite images were cool looking. Isn't there more ice(bergs and polar ice caps) now than in modern history?
One thing I know is nature is not science. And people can't control nature. Back in college had a nut job professor, Said if we don't drastically change things in the next few years things will be bad, no more this no more that. "No MORE MAPLE syrup do you love syrup? because I do!!!!" Last spring has been my best maple syrup year, even after a larger pan lots of wood, I pulled my taps Early. lol.
All I'm gonna say is throughout the Earth's history, there have been warm eras and cold eras. And in the 70's they were predicting an ice age. After that
Since we don't hear about the rain forests like we did back in the 90's, am I to be thinking that they are all cut down now???
Come to think of it, it was only aobut 4-5 years ago that Lake Superior was down (water level) about 3 feet. "Experts" warned it would many years to recover, etc. blah, blah. Everything is fine once again....
I just have two thoughts I'll share: 1. It amazes me that those with all the vast knowledge of our planet and nature live in the concrete jungle, while those of us that live in, on and from the land are told we are too dumb to know anything. 2. It's called societal manipulation via propaganda. 'Nuff said!
There is no doubt that the Science behind Nature is not very well understood, and that we can't control Nature, the forces at play are just too vast with too many variables. Does that mean it is not worthy of study? I stop short of just throwing up our hands and saying we can't control it so we shouldn't study it. The part that gets me is the "hype" affects the real science. I think both sides are guilty of the "propaganda war". Couple of fairly recent "no nonsense" "just the facts" articles. 2016 Climate Trends Continue to Break Records Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet: NASA analysis finds July 2016 is warmest on record
Seems full of nonsense to me. I did not see any facts just statistics which are always twisted, they could have at least twisted some pie charts around or something. We set a heat record today, its the hottest day ever at 7:02am then ever on record.... Then cools off to be the coolest overall day on record.....lol.
OK just my opinion.. first our record keeping only goes back 135 years or so world's been around for at least 100,000 plus so we look to history.. the Renaissance came when earth warmed and people had more food that is when you focus on art. then Greece volcano blew caused a mini Ice age (we see evidence of people caught in ash) this led to starvation and dark ages so like most things people only take a short term view 250 years ago we used whale oil for lights almost hunted them to extinction and NYC had serious methane issues from horse manure.. then we went to cars yes they cause pollution BUT I have traveled and seen many coubtries (six continents missed antartica) the real problem with the earth is not population or pollution the real problem is poverty. Go to Malaysia or India swim in their rivers delta you will get sick fast look at the bay for the olympics! filled with garbage but it is easier to blame an invisible force that we may or may not have control over then fix things we know we can. Do we do stupid thing without thinking long term consequences yes.. planting vegetables in souther California dessert! cutting down rain Forrest to make farms but in Vermont 125 year's ago state was 85% deforrested and used for family farms now over 80% trees.. but improved technology makes things better over time ... that's as far as I want to go.. to keep this family friendly and non political
All very true. I forgot volcanoes release more garbage than man could dream of releasing. And they are constantly erupting, in the ocean too!
I believe in Sunlight Change... and, we're all gonna die cuz I've noticed there's less of it every day...
