Yeah, the temp rattled a little when I turned the blower up.
Pretty sure this one won't rattle. :D

Dave that looks great and is by far the best add-on I have seen yet! Personally I like the heavy plate as it looks like a factory piece! Color those screws black or get some black oxide allen flat head bolts (would look much gooder!) and your done! BTW are those 1/4-20 bolts?

Those will get a blast of black paint after I pull it apart to clean, and reinstall.
Yep, 1/4-20X1/2". With the CS, they actually protrude through the tubes about 1/8", just like I planned.
I might try reaming out the CS just a wee bit more with a cordless drill. They still stand slightly proud of the surface.
It needs to stay where it is until I adjust the back plate position and mark for screw holes on that. Got sidetracked today moving some wood into the shed. Another cord or so of that, and the shed will be full.

That looks fantastic.....I actually like the screw heads just the way they are especially countersunk, it gives it some contrast, they match the spring handle.

    Yup, looks great!
I bought a NC30 while the Durango Colorado HD had the "crazy stupid":dancer:price on 'em back in the spring. I can't use it here, but I kinda figured my in-laws may want it once they got settled into their new place...well, turns out after moving here, now they are building a new house and yup, lookin for a new stove. So they will very likely end up with it...I may hafta throw a deck on it for 'em after they use it for a while...see if they notice a difference. I have a shop nearby that could burn that out on their table in about 5-10 minutes.

So how did tapping the holes go? Must have been fine, eh?

    Tapping was easy. Freehand.
I was going to chuck the tap in the drill press, then try to hand turn, but I didn't need to. The tapped holes aren't 100% vertical, but most would be hard pressed to notice. Me being me, I notice every little detail when I work on something, and I'm my worst critic.

Which is why I thought it would be good for ESW to make these. I'm sure they could run a few hundred or a few thousand pretty quick once they set up the process.

Probably have to go through epa testing all over again with a mod like this one.

Meh, I really doubt it would make one whit difference...especially burning 3 YO wood. :D
EDIT: Ohhh, I see what you mean...ESW would have to recert...yeah, probably.

i may not have many posts on this thread, but I have been following it as I hope to have something like this on my 30 once I get it hooked up. Just don't know if I'll have it thick enough to park a car on the top of it once it's installed! ;)

Car parking aside, what's the best cleaner to use to remove this sticky azz cutting oil?
I'm using alcohol, but it doesn't seem to be getting all the oil off. I'll keep working on it while I await witty responses. :D
Oh, and I went out to the shop yesterday and drilled/tapped the holes for the back cover plate.
    Pics soon to follow.

Dave, acetone probably would work the best. Paint thinner and any other oil based cleaner might work well too.

Automotive brake cleaner would work well...or any type of degreasing soap, heck Dawn dish soap (in hot water) would work I suppose. Wiping with alcohol (not your beer) before painting would be a good idea though...

Ok, I went back at it with the alkyhol, and it seemed to get it off well enough to get another coat of paint on.
I didn't want to cut the paint, or get the metal too wet.
I'll be resetting the stove pipe into the stove collar sometime later this week, then I'll put the deck on.

I would have used acetone to be sure I get it all off. Acetone will flash off fast.
We're going to need some pics of that first pot of stew you cook up on that puppy :D :popcorn:

As long as the paint goes on a good and don't bubble up in a couple of days you're good to go bud,
If you go with chicken noodle soup Beware of the noodles you use, some will turn to mush

    I've had that happen.
Put it in the fridge, take it out next day and WHAM!.....mush.
Those go in last, and just long enough to cook through. My favorite soup.
