Ventura Ventura man arrested on suspicion of violently resisting arrest, police say By Staff Reports Updated: Yesterday 10:09 p.m. Ventura police said officers arrested a man on suspicion of resisting arrest Friday afternoon after rushed at them wielding a box-spring mattress when they responded to a family disturbance. The disturbance was reported at 2:20 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Ventura Avenue, authorities said. A man later identified as Jesse Chase, 38, locked himself inside the house and would not let his family inside the home, police said. Officers were able to open the door but when they tried to speak with Chase, he allegedly retreated from them, police said. Authorities said Chase then picked up a twin-size box-spring mattress and rushed at the officers with it. The officers were able to get out of the way and immediately tried to take him into custody, but police allege he began fighting and punching the officers. After a brief fight, Chase was handcuffed and taken to Ventura County Medical Center, officers said. He was medically cleared and booked into county jail on suspicion of violently resisting officers, authorities said. One of the officers suffered a moderate head injury and was not able to work the remainder of his shift, police said. However, he is expected to return for his next scheduled shift, authorities said."
