    I know it literally Hurts....
Some companies will stay true and use technology to keep big liter push rod motors.

What does that have to do with "alloy" truck beds?

They tried "replacing" the V8s in pony cars in the 80s. (With mixed results, Mustang SVO vs the Iron Duke Camaro?) We've come a long way technologically in 30 years but I've yet to see a forced induction small-displacement motor out-work a V8. Who knows? Perhaps now is that time.

Don't get me wrong, trucks like the EcoBoost F150 certainly have their place in today's pickup market. I'm not calling them "junk" by any means. But just because you can make V8 horsepower doesn't mean you can work like one. Much like the old big-blocks vs small-blocks. Yep, small-blocks could make the power, but a BB would do it day in, and day out for a long time.

I agree, manufacturers use dohc that rev to make power and help sip under normal driving.
VVT direct injection ect and computer modeling will help not only keep v8s but make them more powerful.

I see what you did there. That's one of the 2 reasons didn't get the 2.7 twin turbo standard motor in my car. And I opted for the hard to find 40v v8 naturally aspirated one. That and I hate timing belts.

When the turbos go on those Audi's, it's $3000 just for the two turbos, and then at that point you might as well get the upgraded turbos for 3500.

The miles on the newer turbo vehicles show that turbo tech has gotten a lot better in the last few years. There's some 3.5 ecoboosts out there with a ton of miles on them, and minimal maintenance needed. As they moved to the next design of v6 ecoboost motors, they should only get better.

Even gm doesn't have big blocks anymore. It's a supercharged small block to the rescue.

While I like the simplicity of pushrod motors, they are not as efficient as ohc motors.

Gm tried making ohc v8s, and that was not so successful for them. So they went back to pushrods. Then cylinder deactivation, vvt, roots type chargers etc.

Dodge/ Chrysler pretty much did the same as gm, except they had a great ohc v8 in the 4.7. they gave up on that and went old school pushrod with the new 5.7 hemi, and even they had issues in the early 2000s with a proven design, and somehow they messed that up. Now they make a bigger hemi with a roots charger in the hellcat.

Eh, I like technology, and advances in tech. But I also like companies that don't count lawsuits and lives vs saving pennies. They all try to save money, but there's a line. Some companies have repeatedly crossed that line and have been nailed for doing it. I don't support those companies. Jm2¢

Respectfully I have no idea where you get this info from..

Dodges 4.7 was a hunk of poo poo. That's pretty well known.

If you think of engine efficiency count valves per mpg or valves per hp.

Lol and you applaud ford and vw?
Pretty sure they have both killed. Ford firestone.
And VAG(Volkswagen auto group) has just cheated the US government and every diesel owner.( They used a peice of gm tech to cheat they updated their archaic pcm and outsourced from a gm subsidiary)
Maybe you missed their multiple lawsuits, news stories and plummeting vw resale value.

GM never Really tried with ohvv8, they did it in the caddy. They had an ancient lotus motor for the vette.
My gm built ohv I6 has been bullet proof. So they sure as heck can build ohv.

If they tried ohvV8, it would have gone into pickups.

I guess gm had nothing to prove with pushrods with the new lt1? Supercharging is optional in the lt4.

They don't need big blocks anymore,(their SBC makes more power than older BBC) with their lsx series of engines that you seem to be oblivious about, their displacement with a small deck height (wich is the difference between big and small) changes that idea.
In other words their cubes can almost or be the same as a bb but in a smaller package.
That's why you see 427 408 ect in small engine compartments like miata, fiero, prius ect where ohv wont fit.

Anybody in the automotive world can't deny gms success with their lsx motor.
It was conceived pre 97 with millions of computing hours into cylinder head design that to this day, races every weekend at NASCAR, or at the dragstrip, to lemans. They are the reason gm pickup resale is higher than their competitors.
They are choice for watersports manufacturers, ski lift engines ect.
Their block architecture inspired or was copied by almost everyone.

This is Volkswagens " maintenance position"
Timing belt water pump tensioner and coolant every 60k miles. Parts are about 500 a pop and most dealer or shops want close to or over 2k for this scheduled maintenance.
The Mrs. Does this all by her self.

My dumpy chevy small blocks only have the oil cap and drain plug removed for maintenance.

That's why you buy a VW with a timing chain.

Ski boat engine marinizers ( PCM, indmar, and crusader - to a lesser extent) preferred the Ford 351 to the gm 350, until they used up all the Windsor blocks. Then they settled on gm blocks. The modular 5.4 Fords were slated to go into ski nautique boats in the early 2000's, and a few did, but then the economy dropped out, and ski boats went from 30k to 70k. There were marinized 5.4's in NA, and supercharged lightning 5.4 motors, and they went well. That price hike and sales loss halted the retooling required to make production parts from custom one off marine specific parts. There were some gm marinized already, so it was a cost savings to not have to retool. Now, the 6.2 Ford from the raptor can be had in a ski boat.

Comparing ohc to ohv in how the motors make power is not a very good thing to do, at least not in favor of ohv. Both can make power down low in the rpms, it's all in the cam. However an ohc can put out better numbers at the top end because they are more efficient.

GM has done several really bad cost cutting things in recent years. The ignition switch fiasco cost lives. That decision was over a couple of pennies per car. Also the unlined gas tanks outside of the frame rails on full size vans and truck's. That decision cost lives too. There's others, and Ford has had recalls too, but how Ford, Toyota, VAG, and others handle these recalls is a lot more preventative than reactive after lives have been lost. Not just lost, but monetary values have been placed by GM execs, lawyers, and gm accountants on those lives, before some lives have even been lost. That's troubling to me on a level that goes beyond how good or bad a car is, or whether I like a car or truck, and morally I won't support it.

I'm not loyal to one brand, but I have seen enough to be brand averse.

    All your points are mute.

You moraly support one brands wrong doings class action lawsuits wich all companies have(vw) that you won't acknowledge but bash and point out another lol.
That's the definition of bias. If that's how you feel about cars or products in general you better stop buying everything and anything.

With all due respect You have no technical knowledge of any of the opinions you are making.

You Obviously blindly hate gm lol.

There is no retooling for" marinizarion".
You can go to jegs summit or the boat repair place or engine builder, and get the same block heads cam or intake that's used on street cars or trucks.

The only difference mostly its marinizarion of the carb(bowl so it doesn't flood) in newer boats fuel injection obviously you don't need it, and alt and starter are "spark proof" to keep you from going boom.

Ford (in the past decade)was underpowered and unreliable. PERIOD.

I haven't seen any dohc motors make the power down low you speak of.
Instead of unbiased opinion prove it?

Again I've seen them on dynos, I've personally "computer" tuned them seen dyno graphs and reluctantly towed with them.
I would love to see a factory dyno graph with tq off idle(like when towing or boating) that you claim.
They all make their power 3+k. The tundra can pull, it makes good power, but it's revving to do it, it has steep rear gears and trans gears to keep it its power band.
Same with my trailblazer 4-5k and it pulls just like a small block at those rpms.

I won't bother to read your reply past the first line, because of your intro. The saying is "moot point", not mute.

I'll leave it at this, you don't agree with me, and that's fine. You are entitled to your own opinions.

Never covered my oak stacks since spring of 15 and they look like they are coming along awesome. This summer has been exceptional for drying. Worried last fall about covering them but never got around to it, all for not as they appear +1.
