Maybe for different folks. I'm sure each location doesn't put saws up first of each month. That would mean that have a crazy amount of saws. Over 20 since they keep them a few years.

The first Monday of each month new saws are listed for the locations they are available on the Home Depot website. Not every location will have a saw for sale. I have heard this from other folks and the manager of the tool rental near me. Confirmation enough for me bud.;)

I think I wrote that in this thread somewhere.

The first Monday of the month Home Depot corporate offices email a list to all the stores of what to put up for sale and how much to put it up for. Chainsaws have a rental shelf life of 2 years so after that 2 years you will see them pop up for sale. I'm not positive what the rental shelf life of other equipment is though.

Yes exactly what the manager at my local HD tool rental told me. Thanks for the clarification I couldn't remember who else said it.

I stopped in to the HD rental place again today. I'm really having the worst luck over there, today the counter help told me the manager had a death in the family and wasn't in at all last week, therefore none of the carb parts were ordered. I got his business card and will start again on monday.

clemsonfor , thats a good idea, I have plans on calling him in the am.
If he thinks he can do something with my interest I'll go to the shop after work and have them
pull the muffler and spark plug. If I get that far it will be a deposit only until I see it running
    with a new carb.

Am I looking for anything else on these saws during a once-over?

Me personally , they look so good and they obviously keep them up. IF the piston cyl looks good. If it idles while you turn it on its side and upside down and doesn't speed up or stall out, and if it oils the chain, do the test where you hold it wide open a few inches from cardboard wood or concrete and look for the oil rooster tail, I'd hand them the money and get out of there.

Do all that , test the brake, take off bar n chain look things over , Sprocket, even if the sprocket is worn a little, I wouldn't worry about if the rest of the saw looks good, cheap and easy to replace

Had a fellow bring one of these Home Depot saw's up to the house this morning for an eyballin' and maybe a tune. It fired up, ran great, until I hit the throttle then bwah, bwah, cough, and silence. Hmm. Checked it over quick, messed around with the impulse line which looked to have a kink. Ok cool, fired it back up and same thing. Drat. Sounds like it's running... Out ...... Of............ :picard: Yep, ran just fine once I filled up the fuel tank.

They had two saws there when I went to get mine, the first one I tried to start with the switch off, so after that we figured it was probably flooded it would not start, the other one fired right up, I really wanted to check both of them out so I kept messing with it trying to start it, finally I decided to take the plug out and look at it, went over and told the guy it was bone dry, he said check the fuel, sure enough tank was dry, he said new guy must have screwed up and didn't put gas and oil in it, we took it in the back and filled it with gas and bar oil, it still wouldn't start and then started smelling like it was flooded,, after about 20 minutes fooling with it and even holding throttle wide open it wouldn't start so we gave up and I bought the other one.
I love it too, good saw, runs great, tune was good and it takes care business.
When I used up the last of my e gas and switched over to the e free gas it was running a little fat and I had to tune it
