Made a deck - piece of old car hood / door material - about a 1.5" x15 deg bend on the back side to sit over the lip of the blower exhaust area and some pieces of angel iron for supports about 6" long - you do need to channel the air right at the lip deck junction other wise a lot is lost out the side right there. I did not bend the sides down. A piece of angel iron there resolved that The better the fit around the flue the better also another leak point. I can sit in my chair across the room from the 30 and get toasted now. Thanks for the idea. Because of the air flow with the fan on the sheet metal doesn't get hot enough to warp on mine ( ac30 blower) and the materials are of sufficient weight to not rattle - they are just laying there not tacked down in any fashion.
I did a write up on bearing replacement for the ac30 a couple weeks back if your ac30 is squawking. Got to get new storage card for the camera- keep forgetting to do that. I think the ac30 is around 100 cfm vs around 65 for the hair dryer- got one those around also, forgot where I put it though. As I wanted to see if the shaft dia./ bearings were the same between the 2.

Dave I think you did a great job on your convection deck and I feel adding a trim collar to close the gap around the stove pipe would enhance the overall look.. What do you think?

Question for Highbeam or anyone else.......would I be able to cut hot rolled steel with a metal blade in a jig saw?
I found some on Amazon.......A36 Steel Sheet, Unpolished (Mill) Finish, Hot Rolled, ASTM A36, 0.25" Thickness, 24" Width, 24" Length

Hot rolled steel is soft. You WILL DEFINATELY be able to cut it with a jigsaw. Just get a high tooth per inch blade and go slow.

Very cool. I'm ordering now, so I can get this thing made before the snow flies.

Yep. Before it gets cold rolled, it's much softer.

    Should be pretty easy!

Go slow, as in slow speed on the saw, if you have issues some cutting/cooling oil can't hurt.

I decided to just do a search and it came up with Amazon. Obviously, they're just the middleman, but it was pretty easy.
Shipping is almost as much as the material, but at least now I can quit looking and start making.
I also ordered some square 1.5" steel channel.
Already have a can of high temp paint.

Heck yeah you can cut that with a jigsaw but, you don't have a Sawzall? A Sawzall make short work out of that:)

Unless straight lines matter.... jigsaw is straight, Sawzall is fast.

Got a couple, and I'm fairly handy with 'em too. Just need a gooder blade.
I think I'll stick with the jig saw though for this application.

You could clamp a fence on the stock too if you going to use a jigsaw

I think I have a grinder somewhere too, so I can clean any roughness with that and files.
