Gotta guess nobody uses their 6100 much for noodling? Fact is, it's one of the best; the stock clutch cover is excellent at clearing the long, stringy chips- way better IMO than what that southern German saw company produces.

My 6100 now has a bit more than 2 years on the job with me, and it's about fully broken in with somewhere about 30-40 tanks through it. It's almost too much engine for a 20" bar. Seems happier with 24", even noodling sugar maple. (A tankful with a 6100 covers a LOT of cutting.)

A couple of us volunteers working with a certain well-known society have just started work on one of their neglected local preserves, clearing access with brushcutters to a multitude of dead/dying trees onsite. When the time comes (and temps drop a bit) that Dolly and a 576 Husqy will make some joyful noise. We'll have to position the chipper out on the road. Pix when it goes down. At least I know now where the yellow-jackets are.

The saw does noodle very well! I split several large oak rounds down to a manageable size with it just yesterday. How much run time on average are you getting per tank?

I agree about the 24 in bar. I have both and am always switching between the two for no reason.
A tank full of the 6100 can fill a truck load for me. To do three tanks in a day would be a lot of cutting.

Looks like in all my excitement to share with you gentlemen I forgot to mention that I did put the tach on the saw yesterday before I started cutting for the day.

cnice_37 was good enough to be looking out for a fellow FHCer and mentioned the saw sounded lean. It's stuff like that that keeps me coming back here on a daily basis! Thanks bud:handshake:

Anyway my dti 20k showed a max rpm of 12887 so well below the 13800 max rpm of the saw. I don't know if it's because of the strato or not but the 4 stroke on this saw is very subtle.

After a few more tanks I'll tune it in some wood and lean it out some more and really let it rip!:saw:

Ya it is has been some of a challenge for me to tune correctly.
Believe it or not but the low needle is hard for me to get right. Seems to not have much effect. And the high is a challenge. After mine broke in and tuned in wood it bounces of the rev limiter when out of wood held WOT

fordf150 I got a chance to get out and cut some firewood with the bucking spikes this afternoon and they performed much better than the stock spike. I'll keep you posted if I think of any way they might be improved. CoreyB I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on these.

I played with the tune today. I opened wot up to 13500 which in turn lead to retuning the low screw afterwards. I too noticed the low screw was tough to dial in. I'm chalking it up to the strato. I got it where I want it and continue to be very happy with the 6100.
