I got a call first thing this morning from the owner of a local hardware store and also has a ope store/ repair shop that is a husqvarna dealer. I use that worse loosely. Anyways the owner called and said he wanted to talk to me about offering me a job. That he had talked to the owner of the Dolmar dealer (where I buy my saws) Needless to say I am excited to check out his offer. I wanted to ask my friends here if you would please pray for a favorable opportunity. Thanks all.
Well spoke with the owner for about a half hour and they are in need of some serious help. They are needing to basically restructure their entire ope department including parts and repairs. I go back tomorrow at 3 to go over some more details and start looking at some short term goals of the department and find the best solutions. Sounds promising for the job but if the department can't be turned around they are ready to drop it. Sounds like they want it turned around , organized, and streamlined in 90 days. That is a huge job!
Sounds like without an established customer base, there may not be enough positive results to go along with the changes?
Sometimes taking a shot at these type of things can really work out good for both parties. We wish you luck Corey.
Good luck Corey. Sounds like you are doing your due diligence before hand so you have a good idea what you are getting into. Sounds like a great opportunity. At least you know that they want to "pee or get off the pot." Nothing worse than getting stuck in limbo indefinitely. I think that's a very positive sign.
Well had a second meeting today and go back Monday . Basically this will be a complete reinvention and take all the inventory and start from scratch. This is going to be a very big challenge and taking things very cautiously as it is in a very upside situation. Anybody have a good inventory solution ?
Great point. Only problem is there has never been an inventory done. And there are lots of parts. But yes it will be getting downsized and streamlined.
Inventory is tough unless you buy an inventory management system like partsmart. How do they do it now? I'd call your husky rep and explained that you're getting one chance to turn this around or the dealership is gonna be phased out. The rep should be more than willing to come out and give you a hand right the ship and giving you pointers (that's if the rep is worth anything, lots of crappy reps out there however). After you get over the initial hurdles, advertising that the OPE dept has been revamped should get the word out. This is the busy time of the season, so work should be pretty easy to find right now, fix anything you can coming through the door.
