Went for a bush cruise in the high country and came home with some fir

So this was today's victim. A doug fir tree nice and close to the road. The area is way out in the middle of know where so I had it all to myself. It was to hot for my taste but the tree was fun. I always feel less stress once the tree is on the ground. I have mountain pictures as well but lets look at the firewood first

My truck was down around the corner to start off. I always position my truck on the proper side of my exit so I dont get blocked in in case I have to get out quick because of animal or injury. I was by myself and in the middle of know where.

When I rolled this sucker down on the road it was handy for bucking that it landed on one of the rounds.



All finished, each round is bucked to 17 inches so I was able to squeak 4 rows in. I split a piece and found it to be around 24%-26% mc. Much to high of course. I wonder if it will be below 20% by November? Any thoughts gang? Ill split it on the small side and get er done right away. Its not urgent I burn it this year but it would be nice.

 

Looks good! I went up and did a short hike at 8700 ft this morning. Had to get away from this oppressive heat.

Nice! Did you ride the bike up there? I love waterfalls. In my younger years I used to be a fanatical ice climber. Good memories. Looks like we both had some fun in the mountains today!!

Some pretty awesome pics of the mountains there Sean. That is great when you can get some wood close to the road and then bucked up.
If you split it small like you are saying it might be close to 20% by then end of this year. Looks like you are close to a half cord there.

Yeah Im a mc snob so if its not meant to be for this year thats fine, Im not needing to push the envelope considering my other options in the bush and in my stacks. I get so spoiled with dropping ready to burn trees that I get a bit miffed if I drop one this time of year that may not be ready on my schedule. I usually like doing this kind of harvesting early on but up there the snow makes it impossible. If I remember Ill post a moisture meter test pic later on in the season.

Thanks! There is a sulphur spring along the route and was hoping to snap some pictures of mountain goats but they werent there yesterday. I once saw a cougar chasing a deer near there as well.

 

Too hot for the bike....Ice climbing looks fun and scary....I made it as far as Jasper, Alberta a few years back, Sean you defiantly live in a very beautiful part of the world!

 

Thats right, I remember you mentioning that trip. I dont do the climbing much anymore. I was almost killed a few times so I decided my family needs me around for awhile longer.
