I'll be in the market for our first camper in the near future. Going to be looking in the 20-28ft length pull behind. 5th wheel isn't out of the question but I'd rather not lose the bed space. What do yall have and what are some tips, pros/cons to look for? Also I should add I'll be shopping used most likely.
Yeah, we got our 96 Wildwood 30' for 2800 a year ago. We don't tow our camper around, but rather is a semi permanent extra place to stay up at the cabin.
Hmm.......campers ehh.......I wouldn't be much help with what's a good buy on newish models, nicely restored vintage campers are pretty cool and you'd be the talk of the campground!.......of coarse you'll need all those fun toys that are needed when camping, so you might want to check out the "Anyone collect Coleman" thread......
With a 5th wheel what you loose in bed space is made up in storage in a 5th wheel and doesn't have to be unloaded after every trip.
Make a short list of your wants and needs. Our list included: - what is your tow vehicle - get what you can tow safely, factor in gear and food too. - Permanent the beds for our 4 family members - 1 Queen and two bunk beds. Didn't want to be pulling out couches or putting down tables regularly. - we wanted a small tub. Wife and daughter like baths. - price. We found the floor plan we liked and then found several different manufacturers that made their own version but all basically the same. We narrowed it down and bought what we thought was the best value. Good luck and let us know what you find.
Well we went shopping on saturday and started looking at new. Didn't plan on new but the options they have now are unbelievable! Plus most of the used campers we looked at all seemed to have at least one or two issues. Also new comes with a pretty nice warranty. After looking at quite a few different models, we really like this forest river surveyor "hybrid" all the benefits of a longer trailer but about 8ft less towing length and a good bit lighter. I'll be towing with my 04 ram 1500 (5.7) with a weight distribution setup just for added stability. I'll probably add air bags if i feel the need but the model we're looking at weighs in around 4500lb dry so they might not be needed. We're gonna check out a couple other dealers this week and a few other models. Here's the surveyor
