    Hello
Crazy weather here in the NE
It was 66 in the workshop last night and I came very close to lighting the stove.
    Did anyone light their stove?

That's good! At 8 pm tonight the temp is 63 Deg outside and 71 Deg in our living room here. This is a walkout split entry with the living space esencially on the 2nd floor.
The workshop and the shed with nothing above them on the ground floor are 67 degs so they are close to needing heat tonight! :)
    What is your temp outside?

I finally relented and built a fire this morning after the kitty started sitting on the stove and chirping.

Ran it about an hour or so.

That would make a good commercial for a Whitfield pellet stove. :)

Nope - cold in the house, in the middle of summer, I deal with by putting on more clothes (don't do that during winter - go figure). I don't have air conditioning and just 3 days in a row of 85+ degrees, lots of sun and warm morning temps (mid 50's to 60's) make the house temp go up in the high 80's during the day (Friday morning it was 78* in the house when I left for work at 5 am).

Even with all windows/doors open at night, with ceiling fan going (and bathroom exhaust fan too), the air currents in this house are so non-existent it isn't even funny, so it is hard to cool down. I was grateful for the last couple of days where the temps were in 50's and 60's (and very dark outside) so the house did actually cool off to 64* yesterday morning.

Just glad ol mother nature gave us a nice weekend we could enjoy. Had a nice day on the water Saturday(I'll post some pic's in the whats up thread later today).

Funny how 68ºF is cold in winta, But we love it in the summer. wifey did have a sweat shirt and flannels on in the AM. I was jazzin some shorts(nope no pic's as I no wanna scare the crowd away).... :D

    Hi Bogiebabe
To Yank in some cooler air at night, besides the living room ceiling fan and bathroom fan I put in, I also installed a whole house fan in the hallway and a gable fan in the attic. These 2 fans really push out the hot air and suck in the cooler air outside. We just open all the windows a crack and you can feel the cooler air rushing in! :)

The gable fan we block up in the winter to keep the heat in the house. :)

    They were easy to install.
    See pics
    Pic 1-2 Whole house fan
    Pic 3 Attic Gable Fan
    Pic 4 Radiant Heat Shield
    Pic 5 Living Room AC
    Pic 6 Kitchen AC

The biggest and easiest improvement was when I installed the radiant heat shield under those pink rafter vents. (i.e. Reflectix Foil from Home Depot)
It keeps the Suns heat out so the house is 10 Degs cooler in the summer time every day. See pic 4
After tacking in all the rafter vents and foil my brand new Sears Craftsman pnematic staple gun blew a rod and I got a new one under warranty. Guess all that work was a little to much for the poor little fella! LOL :)

Of course the 10k & 12k BTU AC units in the living room and kitchen that I built into the wall keep the place ice cold if we wish too.
The living room AC unit did not stop me from making a built-in hutch with shelves above it!
I had to move the window in the kitchen over to the right a bit to build that AC in so it was a bit tricky! LOL Installing the AC units electrical outlets in the wall and wiring to a seperate circuit was the fun part since I am an Electrical Engineer. Certainly better than blocking up the windows wth a cheaper unit!:)

Looks like you did a lot of great improvements that work well for you .

I have no attic to speak of and no "ends" to install fans in as it is a hip-type roof with about a 2/12 pitch (ie, a 2 year old couldn't stand up in the tallest part - not trying to work up there myself, that is for sure). I'm hardy - I'm from KS, where I didn't have AC either; I rather detest AC most times because I freeze, even with sweaters on. The only time I've ever used AC in my vehicles was if it was raining (pouring) and hot out, so I needed to unsteam windows without them being opened - oh, and once because my dad was in the car (1982) and once when my mom was in my car (1984-ish).

Although I do nap on the bike during lunch most days, I'm not going to get a good night's sleep on it
